Your Personal Best
This thread is kinda different. Tell us about something that you worked toward and achieved in your life that youre proud of. Not anything that was given to you like a prized possession or a famous person that you met. I'm talking about something that YOU did. Things like the family you raised, a disease that you overcame, a foreign language that you learned, a game winning touchdown, a promotion that you got, etc. And by the way, it's not limited to just one thing. So what I'm sayin is brag about yourself a little!

Ah, good topic, look forward to reading the response, but the things I could post on topic I don't wanna talk about.
We'll just say and assume I've lead a totally unproductive life without any positive impact on anyone or anything, a total waste of a life

Re: Your Personal Best
Great post, Perve.
I have a tendency to think at times, I am a total failure. And, an accomplishment is all in the eyes of the beholder.
I stood by my girlfriend when she was 18, pregnant, and unmarried. I didn't realize I was doing anything other than enjoying our friendship . She felt otherwise. As she says, "You were the only one." Those she thought were her friends were actually just using her, and disappeared. She married the father, had a girl, Tessa. I am Tessa's godmother. Two years later, they had a son. Now in their 30's, the kids still call me "Aunt". Their children do, too.

I feel the ame way about me Iwant. Seems I havn't accomplished much in my life. Anything I've done where I figgered I'd make good money and be able to enjoy life more, failed or didn't live up to expectations.
On the "good" side. I've been able to do what I want mostly when I wanted. Thankfully, I didn't end up in jail for most of it.

Re: Your Personal Best
OOMG, that is exactly what my origional post was about, then I started the one about my friend.
It is no fun o be broke or struggling. I've been lucky to have jobs that paid me better than most. However, the jobs were random. I worked as a waitress, in banquets, bartender, and nail tech. I was a clerk, at the U.S.Postal Service. My dad and everyone thought was a DREAM job.
My Uncle always said I was smart and he thought I should be/do something more. Eventually, I passed a 420 license, and became a Workers' Compensation adjuster. I entered the M.F'ing corporate world.
I began at the bottom, customer service, making $17,500. I worked hard and did what I thought was a good job. Well, everyone hated me. My supv. did not like me and my first review was bad. No problem, I'm not stupid. I won her over and she even gave me a hug on my last day at work. Like I said, I'm not stupid. I went to work at another TPA. I began making more money, I worked hard and moved up. Two years into I posted for a Lost Time adjuster desk. I was turned down, they did not think I was ready. My co-worker said just keep bugging him. Well, I am a little arrogant, and I told her, "He will come to me, and he will ask me to take the desk." Guess what....HE DID!!! Someone left, the desk was open, and he asked me.
So, in two years I increased my salary $7,000. Then, I moved to another TPA, this time increasing my salary another $10k. Let me tell you.. good pay, and I worked for every penny. As my gf said, I was set up to fail. I sat down at a desk that had not been touched for a month. So, I was a month behind the first day, with no time to learn the system, breath or anything. And, I kept on getting dumped on.. and these were people I knew!
The desk was a mess, the files were a mess. I had to learn Florida law, I had never attended mediation, and deposition. I had legal request and petitions to respond to and they were LATE!! Late means fines, and I have to explain WHY?
I did it.. I did it ALL!! I worked, and worked and worked. Long days, nights, weekends. I began at $17K, ended $54K. I worked hard, did my job, and that is more than I can say for the others. The longer I worked the more responsiblitlies were given to us. I know in today world's this is the same for everyone. We are to do the work of 2, 3... 4, 5 people. In the end, I quit. I didn't feel it was worth it to me. But, I did my personal best.

Re: Your Personal Best
There was a time, when I had what I guess we can call...ambition.
I, like all of us. have traveled a path littered with shards and pieces of events that have shattered me. I, like ya'all, have overcome much.
I am who I am now, and I'm where I am right now by my own choice. I choose a simpler, rural and peaceful existence. I am not trapped here by ignorance, lack of education, lack of ambition, lack of anything, I choose this life.
I am the one who will leave a note on your windshield to tell you your passenger back tire is very low, nearly flat. I am the one that although my appointment is first, tells you and the Doctor's staff that I don't mind waiting a bit longer so your sick child can go right in. I am the one behind you in the checkout line that reassures you it's no big deal if you need an extra 1/2 minute to try another debit card, or find your checkbook in your purse, I am the one that will offer to finish loading your groceries on the conveyor while you run back and grab something you suddenly remembered you forgot. I am the one driving behind you on the unfamiliar road you're traveling and trying to find which turnoff to use your blinker for and not tailgating, honking, giving the finger and calling you stupid. Hey, we've all been somewhere we haven't been before, why shouldn't you be shown a little tolerance and patience?
I am that one, and so many, many others are "that one" too.
I, at this time, do not have an impressive job title, an enviable salary, newest car, biggest house, but every day holds countless opportunities, opportunities to be "That one"

Re: Your Personal Best
Normally I've let natural talent carry me through. And rarely worked hard to achieve. But I can and have put effort into my life at times.
1st as a a 7th grader I scored the second best in my school on a national math exam, much to the shock of teachers who wanted, but rarley saw my homework.
2nd, in a youth group I was involved with, I earned, was nominated for and received nearly all honors and awards at local, district and state levels.
3rd, like Kiss I have weaved thru a career that started at nearly min wage and turned it into something much more lucrative.
4th at a great personal and financial cost I put my daughter on a path free of addiction.

Re: Your Personal Best
I think like most people with children we just look and pray that that they turn out great. I don't know how much of it I can take credit for because in most cases it really is up to them when it all comes down to it, but I would say I am at least a very lucky woman to have 3 great kids that have the potential to achieve great things.
I would like to add to Kam's that as for his daughter. He has done a great job. She is a wonderful young lady that is definitely on a great path.
My personal achievements are not what some might think I would say. I did the great job thing with 6 figures, I did the modeling thing. I did a lot of things for that matter. But I think the one thing that I did that really was the hardest and deserved the pat on the back for was when our lives as a family changed drastically.
While going through a horrible time in my marriage we had a major car accident. It was my mom, three kids and myself. It was a faulty airbag sensor that caused it. I went from a 6 figure job to being on disability and food-stamps with in months. My husband and I were separated and I was getting no money from him. I had to fight for disability if anyone knows anything about it then you know it takes years and a lot of doctors and lawyers.During that time my daughter at age 2 1/2 years old also went through open heart surgery.I wont go into the rest but lets just say it didn't get any better for a very long time.
Through it all I managed to stay afloat and some what sane. My kids are all generally healthy with having some minor issues and some issues we need to watch over their lives and I remain on permanent disability but we all got through it. I get by although not nearly at the monetary level we had prior to our accident.
In a strange way it was a good thing. We are all very close because I got to spend time with my kids that I never would have had if I was still working the hours I had. I also managed to get by without having all the frills but no one complains because they appreciate everything they get which is rare these days. So yes I'm proud of how we all dealt with the life changing events in our lives. It's still difficult at times but, I realize every day how much worse it could have been. If you saw our accident you wouldn't believe anyone should have walked away.

I studied and looked and learned all about solar with no help from anyone, just the net and books.I found how to build solar hot water heating panels.I took all the materials from scratch and built my own solar panels, ran all the plumbing work, did all the elctrically, bought the proper water tank, installed it.Everything from my head to a working product, two 4 by 8 foot panels on the roof, 80 gallon water tank, circulator, piping, and the controller to tell it when to run. Now I have free hot water all summer and helps to heat my home in the winter..very proud, and happy with how it works.

I continue (and conclude)....and what I put myself through, would'nt wish on anyone, but the best things that happened to me. Been on stage, owned business's, on top. But also so far down, had to look up, just to see down. So in the end, my personal best would have to be, survival, not overcomming. That about cover's it. It's all good. I approve this post. Re: Your Personal Best
I played at a 4th of July party over the weekend and met a little guy with Downs Syndrome. He informed me that he plays the drums, so after the first set, I went over to him and invited him to come up to play a song. His father quickly pulled me aside and said "no, no, no, he'll drive you crazy". I told him that I planned on inviting any one that wanted to sing to come up and that if he wanted to play, he was welcome to. Well, this little guy came up and played his heart out and when the song was over, everyone gave him a Standing Ovation. I dont think his feet touched the ground for the rest of the night! His parents were grinning from ear to ear and his father must have shaken my hand and thanked me at least 10 times. I told him that the pleasure was all mine. Just before they left, the little guy and mom came over to me and she said that he wanted to know if he could have my autograph. I quickly responded "Only if I can have his!". Well, you shouldda seen him smile! I'll be framing this little piece of paper with the crayon writing on it. To me that was better than winning the lottery!

That was great Free. The funny thing that people who are selfish don't really get is that sometimes the things we do for others, no matter how big or small can be the most rewarding and memorable.Wait, does that mean when we do something for others we are really selfish?lol No,You know know what I mean. It's a great thing to see that a simple gesture of kindness can mean and do so much. Hopefully people will read your post and think of something they can do to make someone in their lives smile if even for a minute.

Re: Your Personal Best
I think most people know deep down you are a great guy Free.
NRG,I knew you would come around. You also bring up a good point. I definitely have come to realize that many if not most people I have come across have done something for those less fortunate.I also have noticed most if not all wish they could do more as you have mentioned.
I would be curious to see if you could pick one cause (Due to the fact that there are just to many to list them all)to give your time and energy to what would you like to do?
I have many I wish I could get involved with. One would definitely be American Heart Association because it hits so close to home. My daughter was born with a heart defect(All fixed now) and she was a poster child for them years ago.
I do have another that is a big one for me. I would love to get more involved with animal rescue. My mother did this for a long time. It's really heart breaking to see how many animals are abused and homeless not to mentioned put down just because there is no place for them to go. Just the other day some idiot threw a 5 week old kitten out a window of his car on the Verrazano bridge. Fortunately a animal rescue worker was on the bridge and with the help of a few truckers they blocked traffic so he was able to rescue the kitten unharmed physically. There was another kitten with almost the same circumstances a few weeks prior that wound up with 2 broken legs I think. Sadly in both cases the fucking idiots that did it got away.
