A streak of stubborn
I'm sure we all have streaks of stubborn about something, one of mine is not using a calculator. I still insist on doing all my math by pen and paper.
I don't like math, not inclined mathematically, and I guess I'm just so certain if I don't force myself to do it, I will become reliant and dependent on using a calculator. I may occasionally double check my figures with one, but I'm pretty stubborn about doing it "old school"

Re: A streak of stubborn
Awww, I'm a bit stubborn about my spelling too. I will try very hard to spell out a word on my own, and then the spell check part is kind of a game.

Re: A streak of stubborn
Call me stubborn, but moving out of the way for a biker who wants to do something illegal is not my cup of tea. I was cruising into downtown on a major route when I encountered traffic jams from the holiday. As I neared my turn, I heard someone banging on my rear side passenger window. A biker had managed to somehow find a way of cruising down a narrow strip of asphalt between the cars and the guardrail. The empty space is only about two feet wide, but I was riding it close to the rail as I always do in this situation, in case emergency vehicles need to get past me. He was yelling at me to get my ass over so he could pass. There is no travel permitted on that section except by pedestrians trying to get down to the adjoining sidewalk further down. His ponding wasn't paying off as I brought my vehicle closer to the rail to keep his pounding from breaking the side window. I rolled down the window and told him that I was calling for a police officer. He quited down and moved in behind me pounding on the hood of the guy behind me cutting him off as well. The second he saw an opening, he shot past with a few choice words and gestures. The last time I could remember, motorcycles were considered no different from cars in the eyes of the law pertaining to road rules. Guaranteed, if he had tried to pass me on the right and I hadn't seen him, I would have crushed him good and slow against that rail. I'd be another statistic of the dangers of cars vs. mortorcycles with it being my fault...

That is always what I've done, even if I have to do it several times a day, because no one is watching what the Hell they are doing. Had one semi, who didn't see me and pushed me into the turnoff. Another semi, take over the left hand lane so I ended up driving on the grass.

Now you don't want to be playing "chicken" with semi's. Sounds like a good day to stay home.

Tell them. My girlfriend in the passenger side almost had a heart attack. I can still remember her hand pressed up against the window, freaking out while I just kept on talking.

I try to stay away from semis no matter what I'm driveing. Especially in the Jeep I avoid them. I much prpefer driving the boat.
If that happens again, especially if you have a passenger, get thee plate number and company if possible then call 911 and report 'em. Most places in FL semis are not allowed in the left lane.

Report them? For what? The one ran into me, pulled over, the policeman came, and he was not even ticketed. Oh, well first the truck driver blamed it on me, stating I ran into him. The semi's tire was as big as my car. Damn good thing the police office was standing between us.
And, there is no avoiding semi's on the highways in Florida.

Re: A streak of stubborn
my dad had that happen to him, the truck driver never even saw my dad's car. luckily, dad was able to get over into a field...with out much damage, just some paint got rubbed off where the truck's lug nuts came in contact with the car door. the funny part is, dad was on his way to work at the grain elevator. when he got there, late of course, the semi was there unloading a bunch of grain. dad knew it was the same truck, because the paint that used to be on the car door, was now on the truck lugs. the trucker said that dad musta been in his blind spot. at least his insurance paid for a new paint job.

Always staying in the middle is a bit stubborn, I think.
