Breaking a habit
After cleaning out my kitchen cupboards, I've made a strict and stern decision.
Use to be when an older kitchen small appliance wore out enough not to work properly or be a pain in the ass, I would buy a new replacement and put the old not working so well one in a cabinet just in case.
It must be a habit I got from my parents who lived through the depression. Dad would store stuff in the garage because the electric cord was still good and maybe he could use it to repair something else, or toasters that he would tinker with when he maybe had some time and inclination. Mom would store worn but still kinda working appliances in the back of cupboards just in case she needed it.
Things are different now, within 25 minutes of my house are countless Dollar Stores, 24 hour Walmart Supercenters and Walgreens. If my coffee maker or electric can opener breaks, I am just 5 minutes and 10 bucks from a quick replacement.

Re: Breaking a habit
I know what ya mean. I'm guilty of this too. I have gotten better though. Now, I save the cord off an appliannce or other deevice and can the reminder. That's if it's a longer cord. Never know if ya will need another extention cord or not.
Other things are stuff in the garage.---Miscellaneous stuff. Well, I'll eventually need that for something. Then, when I do , I can't find it so I buy another.
That's the easiest way to find somethin'.

Re: Breaking a habit
I wish I can bring myself to just give things away or throw them out. The worst is baby items and electronics.I am always feeling like I paid a lot for that so why would I just throw it out. Maybe I can give it away or find a use for it. The problem is it sits in my way over crowded house or storage unit and it never gets used again. I more than likely could have bought ten new computers and strollers for what I pay for a storage unit. When I finally get around to getting rid of these things they are so out of date that even giving them away is something that is not an option.I at some point had about 15 old cell phones alone. The funny part was by the time I got rid of them I found out the one or two really old ones that I just gave to a cell phones exchange for calling cards for solders program was now collect able and worth money.lol I love when I finally get rid of things then find out they are worth money. Then I go through the whole see this is why I shouldn't get rid of these things all over again. It's a vicious cycle.I should just leave for a few days and tell my kids just dump everything we don't use. Then I would get be mad for a few days but get over it.(Of course I would lock up my shoes and boots so they don't get dumped by mistake.}

My vice is books. They are in every space they can be stashed. I am a ruthless clutter buster with everything else but i wont let go of my books.

MnJTX My daughter and I are the same with books. We are truly out of room. I got her a Kindle. I read more books on my phone and computer now as well. I still buy books in paper form but not as much and it has helped.

Re: Breaking a habit
Because of recent experience, it should no longer be difficult to break a habit. Seems I'm able to break everything else.
