Picture in a picture
I'm talking about the feature on TVs that allow you to watch two shows at once, or now even, quad screens to watch up to four shows.
Does anyone do this?
I'm a pretty mellow gal, like things simple, like to keep my focus, if two shows are on at the same time, I'll chose one knowing that it's freakin' cable, everything gets re-run, and re-run again. What show I don't choose, there will be multiple chances to catch it later.
Maybe for sports? I don't watch sports so watching live games isn't something I do at all. Unless St. Louis is in the World Series, or the Stanly Cup.

Re: Picture in a picture
I don't have one of the pic in pic T.V.'s. I remember when they first came out and they seemed pretty cool. Now it kinda sounds like a guy thing, watching sports.
I think before I were to buy one, I would have to spend some time watching a T.V. with multiple programs.
I do however, have 2 living areas in my house, and a T.V. ini each. I can sit in the one room, and watch both of them. I like it.

Re: Picture in a picture
We were forced to invest in a new TV recently, they come with all kinds of features, but the feature I absolutely love is the AVL...automatic volume leveler.
It keeps the volume at one level regardless of the station you switch to, and even when commercials come on. I just adore this. Set the volume, and it remains at that comfortable level, it's wonderful.

I have never heard of AVL. WOW!!! The volume is my worse complaint, and drives me crazy. As it is now, I flip the channel, or try to hit the mute. Eventually, it drives me so crazy, I just turn it off.

Re: Picture in a picture
The interesting thing about the volume issue is there really is a law that says commercials have to be set at a specific volume but most networks, especially cable networks ignore it.(The local cable companies do their own local insertion of many commercials. Those are the worst.) You can file a complaint with the FCC and they will be fined if they don't fix the issue. It has become such an major issue that the newer TV's have the new feature Chazzy was talking about. One of my favorite features as well.
I do use PIP. In my house most features are used on the new TV's. We are not your typical TV watching family. PIP can only be used in certain circumstances if you have cable. You need to have two converter boxed because it is like have two tuners. My family being in the TV industry will use it to monitor multiple channels.
It also came in handy when my kids where young and would fight over the TV. One would get a headset and watch the one channel and the other would watch and listen normally. there were always two pictures on the screen. Now you can do even more than 2 but if using cable would need a converter for each screen you want to watch.(Unless you use one for cable and the others with out cable. It gets to complicated for me to explain all that and how its done.) lol

Re: Picture in a picture
We use beyond tv and its great. No picture in a picture just the ability to record what you want and watch it later. Its a companion program to cable. The tv is hooked up to the computer and the cable is hooked up to the computer. I never really watched tv but now my boyfriend has me hooked lol.

Here I thought converter boxes were a thing of the past, being 99% of TV's are cable ready now anyway.

Re: Picture in a picture
Cable boxes are not gone yet but are going. Everything is pretty much thru the computer or phone these days. I can watch just about anything I want on my cell phone or computer and have it play on a larger screen like a TV. Cable ready TV's have to be addressable to work with premium channels in most cases so Cable is not as simple as you are lead to believe. Besides sysytems are fining ways to be able to charge for things that they have lost revenue for. The are loosing TV subscribers but gaining internet subscribers. However you can even do away with that if you create your own hot spot with an unlimited wireless connection. OK I wont get to technical. Lets just say things are changing quickly. They are changing for the better.Soon you wont have, your wireless, internet and cable as separate things. Most things are in digital form already as well so you can get your books, TV, news, even your medical records, including things like MRI's and Mammograms as well as xrays, and other entertainment in digital form already.I know many already do their shopping on line as well as working from home. The world is changing.
