Re: The first cell phone call...
Yeah, I don't care for it much either when in a public place, I don't want to hear loud personal cell phone conversations. I don't care to hear them when I'm trying to talk to someone in person, I don't care to hear them while using a restroom.
Hell, I hate turning mine on at all when I'm out, if I have to, and it rings or I have to make a call, I go outside or off in a corner or more private place.
On the upside, cell phones are a life saver too. But...I have read that when there is an accident or report to be made from the road, everyone...everyone tries to call it in causing 911 switchboard problems.

Re: The first cell phone call...
sadly, like everything else, there is good & bad. The cell phone is handy for sure, but ppl, especially the younger crowd cant function at all unless they have the phone to their ear, damn, i dont know ANYONE i wanna talk to for hours on end.

Re: The first cell phone call...
I saw the movie "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" a few weeks ago. In one of the opening scenes, they show Gordon Gekko being released from prison for insider trading and having all of his personal belongings returned to him from his time of arrest. "One cellular telephone" was announced and it was one of those old "brick phones". Back then, I thought those were the coolest thing because they were cordless and I had the old "bag phone" or "car phone" that had to be plugged into the cigarette lighter. If I remember correctly, a brick phone cost right around $1000. Now, the wireless companies throw free phones at you. Amazing how time changes things!

Re: The first cell phone call...
I don't think it's safe to chuck your phone out while driving, you should pull over, put it in park, use your emergency flashers, exit your vehicle, walk nearer to the shore of the body of water, give it a good wind up, then a solid pitch. Overhand is most likely the best option and yes, yes I am still in a babbling mood, I have moods, many moods and have passed the rhyming phase and in a peak babbling phase at this moment.
Mine's just a basic phone, no camera, no set up for text or web.

Re: The first cell phone call...
it really sucks when i'm at work, and someone has to call up someone else to see what they should order for lunch, they stand there and list off all the salads in the display case, and then have to describe what each one looks like, and they ALWAYS seem to do it right in the middle of the lunch rush, holding up the line....

Re: The first cell phone call...
Geez lanh...that is so rude,
From a customer pov, it's seems very rude that the person behind you in line has that phone conversation so loudly or closely, that you and the cashier cannot communicate an order without having to shout over them or wait for pauses in their conversation.
I've seen people walk into a ER waiting room, look directly at the sign that says something like "For the privacy of our patients we ask that you not use your cellphones in this area"
Then they walk right over, take a sit under the sign and whip it out and dial. When an employee politely points out the sign, they get so pissey.
Are manners gone now? Do we have a social ideal that we"ll do anything we want, when we want, where we want and piss on everyone else?
That would kind of sad I think.

Re: The first cell phone call...
Its like the phone/texting is the most important thing in the world. My nephew just lost a good job cuz he spent too much time texting & not enough working. When asked if i would put in a good word for him to be a baggage handler at the airport... nope.

Re: The first cell phone call...
I see a lot of people at work that are texting. It is fine if they are on break but not during work.

Re: The first cell phone call...
The funny thing is when they first came out the so called "Important" people had the cell phones. Now the "Important" people don't. Interesting how a thing like a cell phone gives the impression of your status in the world.
I have found them like most other people to be both a blessing and a curse. I was very glad I had mine a few months back when I had my heart attack. I was also very happy when my daughter got hurt and was able to call me for help. Various other emergencies that have made me feel that no one will ever be without a cell phone in my family. But I can't stand when you are at diner or a show and people are texting or chatting on their phones. Or just doing or saying inappropriate things at inappropriate times.
I could take anything aways from my daughter and she would probably be fine with it as long as it wasn't her cell phone. I think she would lose her mind if I took it away for any real length of time. I have taken it away as punishment from time to time but she knows she will get it back before she leaves the house because I feel she is safe with her having it. They at some point will be the way we do everything. They are already close. Banking, paying bills, watching TV and movies. etc. They aren't going away just changing.
