Bringing sassy back...
Those who know me would say I am a woman who speaks what is on her mind...in the work world I have integrity and am respected for being straightforward...on a personal level I have a quick wit and a wicked ass smile. I recently spoke to a group of young women launching their careers. Not one asked a question, when I broke them into six groups of twelve to problem solve I got nothing, nada, zilcho! All of them were emailing, texting, etc. during breaks...what the hell!
Is interaction and face to face communication gone forever?
On a side note, these women made the choice to come hear me speak. The reviews were stellar...I am still scratching my head...
Let's bring some sassy back!

Re: Bringing sassy back...
When I go to a conference or training I never shut up!
Actually I have been "planted" in the latest management training running in my company specifically to get people talking to each other and breaking down barriers

Hate to be pedantic :-) but the phrase "When I go to a conference or training" is superfluous above.
So you're not a fan of the barrier method then?

I could pretend to be offended here and demand an apology, but let's be honest you have a point. However I always thought you liked my mouth.....
and between you and I I have always felt there should be no barriers at all (at least after the first ten minutes)

Re: Bringing sassy back...
I was similar to Josie. I was the one the upper management wanted there to get people going. I think many times its just a matter of getting things started.
But I do think these days they are more wrapped up in the text messaging than whats going on in the room so don't engage in the topic as much.I know if I were running it I would insist on no testing during the event. If seriously needed texts had to be watched for maybe assign a person to monitor those phones for the people. But at the time of sign up I would say NO cell phones, or text messaging of any kind are allowed until event is over. There will be breaks to check for messages. If anyone is caught testing, weather reading or sending and or using a cell phone they will be asked to leave without a refund!

Re: Bringing sassy back...
I totally agree with that, sometimes guidelines and rules are sadly something necessary. Especially when it interferes with others getting the full benefit of the venue and event.
Attended a funeral recently, a woman sitting in front of me couldn't resist sending and receiving several texts...she dropped her phone while doing that...and ya can't rewind and erase time. Her family was quite embarrassed, they had been telling her to stop and turn off her phone.
