History channel
They had a couple shows of interest on this am.
First was called "Top shot" It takes about 10 people in two groups. They use different kinds of weapons in competition against each other. I wouldn't have found it that interesting but they used a tomahawk in one and a blow gun in another. Other than that, it's a typical "reality show" format.
The second was about the history of Appalachia hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus. I didn't know that most of these peoples families can be traced to Scotland and Ireland. Very interesting.

Am watching the Appalachia one now (different time zones). Ya know, somehow I think I'm older than I am, and seem to relate to recent history. Go figure.

Re: History channel
Guessing by the response oomg, not many history buff's here. That's perfectly ok. I find a lot of it interesting, some boring. For example, and non-politically speaking plz, Forget who said it, but true. If you did'nt learn, or know your history, "you're doomed to repeat it". Socialism in the air today. How has that worked out? Just check history. Still non-political, and on topic, ok? And, check your own history, the good and the bad choices. Simlpy put, place your hand on a hot burner, get's burnt. Do it time and time again. Thus the phrase "The defination of insanity is, doing the same thing, expecting different results". On the flip side, each pay day, put money in savings. Repeat each time. Good result. Personl history taught you. Good and bad. Ya, the ole perve rambled a bit, hope someone undersands anyway. History good teaching tool for life, huh?

We Brits have a long history (just for you perveman) here NRG - we used to use a longbow to catch frogs in 1415 at Agincourt.
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
So, remember that next time you are thinking of "holding your manhood cheap"!

Ive seen that one about the Hill Folk a few times and found it to be totally fascinating. Who would ever have guessed that accent would have evolved from a Scottish one?

Re: History channel
The Billy Ray Cyrus one is "Hillbilly, the Real Story"
A favorite of Goody and myself. Allot of history in that one.
I really love watching anything with Ancient English History. The Dark Ages, The Plague, Lost Gold of the Dark Ages, The Real Robin Hood.
Allot of great programs on History and History International channels.

Re: History channel
I love the Historical Legends that spring up all over. Bizarre stories that you think just can't be true, but would love them to be. My favourite is the Hartlepool Monkey
The monkey-hanging legend is the most famous story connected with Hartlepool. During the Napoleonic Wars a French ship was wrecked off the Hartlepool coast.
During the Napoleonic Wars there was a fear of a French invasion of Britain and much public concern about the possibility of French infiltrators and spies.
The fishermen of Hartlepool fearing an invasion kept a close watch on the French vessel as it struggled against the storm but when the vessel was severely battered and sunk they turned their attention to the wreckage washed ashore. Among the wreckage lay one wet and sorrowful looking survivor, the ship's pet monkey dressed to amuse in a military style uniform.
The fishermen apparently questioned the monkey and held a beach-based trial. Unfamiliar with what a Frenchman looked like they came to the conclusion that this monkey was a French spy and should be sentenced to death. The unfortunate creature was to die by hanging, with the mast of a fishing boat (a coble) providing a convenient gallows.

Serious comment. I think everyone should understand where we came from before being able to move forward.
Still serious, but not history related - is anyone else as turned on as me right now with the image of star and a cane?

Boy that cane did sting... Speaking of the cane, when I was a kid, would do something wrong at a friends house, thier mama would wup me. Go home crying, tell my mom, and she'd wup me. Then she'd say "Wait till your father get's home!" Guess what? Looking back on it, I did'nt get enough wuppins. Now that's a little history right there.
