Re: How much are you paying?
the grocery store i work at has a "Pumps Perks" program where certain items purchased get you cents off per gallon, some items have up to 15 cents per gallon off.the more you but, the more you save. the thing is, not every thing that is a "pumps perk" item is something that i'd normally buy. but they do run coupons where if you purchase $5, you save 10 cents per gallon.
it still sucks, last time i filled up, from about 1/4 tank, with 18 cents per gallon savings, i spent over $30, and still didn't quite fill the tank.
i missed nearly a week of work, due to some scheduling issues and a storm that dumped nearly 15" of snow...so my pay check was less than $90..it sucks when 1/3 of the check goes towards filling the tank....

Re: How much are you paying?
13 mpg??? FFS - a Formula 1 racing car does 4 mpg! I just love the go-ho approach you have to oil/gas that side of the pond. We're paying $9.52 a gallon at the moment so build cars that do 40-50 mpg as standard.
Are your washing machine manufacturers also in league with the electricity generation companies and build washing machines that consume twice as much electricity as they need to?

Re: How much are you paying?
As a mater of fact the only washing machines that don't use WAY to much water and energy are ones the average person can't afford. So to answer your question YES!
I know If I could have a car that had 40-50 miles to the gallon I would. Now can you explain to the idiots that set the rules that it is already being done all over except here and get on the car manufactures to get a grip and do it!Before anyone gets pissy with my my ex was a GM employee and most of our friends worked there. Its not like I don't know what the plants do. Maybe that's why I get so pissed about it, I know they have been jerking everyone off for years. Including their employees. They never gave a damn about anyone that worked there or anyone they sold a car too. They only cared about how much money they made.

Re: How much are you paying?
It all comes down to what was in your wallet?
Newbie is exacely correct. There was carburators in the '50's that made those old things get 40+ mpg. Oil companies have bought up most of this technology to keep it from being used.
With the computerized cars now, they can be set to get better mileage. The problem is that the car companies are afraid that lower horsepower means less sales.
The highest speed limit in this country is 80 mph. The national speed limit is 150. Which the police/state patrol cars are set at.
I've yet to see the need for more than 200 hp for any reason in a street application. It's the torque that makes all this stuff move and pull trailers.
So, why would you need [or even want] 500hp?
Now that I've partially vented, I'll quit.---for now

Re: How much are you paying?
Actually, I have an even better example. Can you imagine a software company making their software exponentially more complex with each new version so that you have to buy more and more powerful and expensive hardware just to run the operating system?
Oh wait...

$3.84 yesterday. And the worst part is that this is all based on speculation rather than fact.

They are saying its going to get much worse. That shit should be illegal. Speculation! What ever happened to they pay a price and they sell at the a price based on a certain profit margin. This is bull shit. And they are doing it with food as well. How come they never speculate that prices will go down? They should all kiss my
