Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
I understand they can't do a recall until he is in office for one year.
I want a job where they pay me a boat load of money and I can not show up or do anything I want for a year and they can't do a damn thing. To say this country is broken is an understatement.
I was told that if the federal government shuts down there is a real good chance that Social Security benefits will not go out. OK, So should we tell all the bill collectors sorry but you will just have to wait because the government wont pay me my money because they are acting like 2 year olds? Not to mention what are we supposed to do about paying for food and utilities if we don't get our money? Last I checked there is no damn tree in my yard with money on it! Like most people these days we live check to check. Someone better wake the politicians up. At some point this country will say we had enough. We are civilized but people are frustrated and scared with what is happening. Look at the rest of the world. Do you really think that can't happen here?We are losing the basic things we need to survive for many people. These politicians need to get their over paid and under performing asses back to work. Or I should say TO work being they really haven't been there in ages.
OK I will take a deep breath now and calm down.

Just a caution. This needs to be kept VERY CIVIL. I would put my two cents worth in here, but people do not want to hear the truth, so my mouth stays shut. If this gets out of hand, I will lock this thread.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
yep it is a touchy topic i didnt intend it to be, its seems all i can remember is teachers all though school , they dont make enough now i hear the have to pay there own ,meds and hospitols and so on. now add in doctors and nurses there is a shortage of them too, the schools are already handing out pink slips and our schools are heading down the tube. and the the firemen? as they are saying wisconsin is going to be the test for the rest , thats why so many are joining sides? i dont mind the school so much we dont have any kids that are in school .but the grand children and rest of the young folk.i guess we keep watching the news and see how this mess turns out.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
The teachers have said from the beginning, they don't mind giving some concessions. But that wasn't good enough for Gov. Walker. He wants all or nothing.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
There will never be an agreement because both sides have their points. I have family that are union some teachers some other unions. Unfortunately no one wants to give up anything and I have seen the good and bad of Unions and Administrations. There will never be the perfect answer. There were times I hated the Unions and the crap they pulled and other times if it wasn't for the Union things would have been a disaster. If anyone has the perfect answer I sure would love to know what it is.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
Unions have done tremendous things for every working person. That's whether or not you belong to one or not. If not for the unions, your working conditions would be horrible, you would not get any type of breaks, your work hours, health insurance, retirement, etc etc. All of these have been put in place by unions. I would agree that there are some bad unions and good ones. I've been apart of both. It not for unions, we would be just like China, India etc. Could you imagine working in some place that has no regard for your safety, health or anything else for that matter. Your wages would be next to nothing, and CEO's would be pocketing all profits. Your working hours would be anything that they wanted with no overtime. Everything from safety guards on machines, to working hours, age limits, work comp has been because of the unions.
As for the WI situation, teachers have said time and time again, they have no problem with paying more for their retirement and other benifits. But Walker will only consider it if they give up their ability to bargin. They have already had some soldiers make tours of the Wi prisons, just in case they elect to walk out. The reason Walker is doing this, he lost a grevience to a union when he was the state auditor, and he vowed to bust all unions in the state of Wi.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
Not speaking directly of the WI situation when saying this. In general I have seen some unions that without them the workers would be screwed. I have also seen some that have not changed with the times and seem to have forgotten the original purpose. I should say I have lived this not just seen it. I really do see both sides of this issue. That's why this will not be solved overnight. It is a struggle for power. There are people that hate unions and feel this is the way to get rid of them (And there are some that should be gone) . There are others who say to look at all the good they has done. Yes, some have and continue to do well. However I know for me personally ,If some union did something great 30 years ago but hasn't done shit in the last 10 years but collect dues then maybe those should go or at least be restructured .Remember that as in most things there are 3 sides to every story. Its hard to be objective when it effects you personally.Depending on how it effects you will decide where your opinion will side. It's sad but I doubt this will issue will work out the way all want it to because all sides are so passionate in their belief that they are right. No way to make everyone happy. WI is just the first. I know NY and NJ are watching very closely as most of the rest of the country will probably follow.

i keep hearing its not about the unions .... its about the bargaining rights..... then the rest of the story, they are going to butcher Medicaid and medicare , food stamps unemployment, no dental no glasses or parts, next no meds too. but there is plenty of cash for ,more jails and court houses and cops on the street, and yes they need more protection , but tanks? and the fire men need more stuff tooo and then there will be no more funds for work force development too and all the rest of the smuck too I'm still tying to read the whole thing if i can get it downloaded , then you don't see them cutting their pay , their benies and such and then i forking out 3.60 for gas?then the demo that walked they want to arrest them , fine em a 100 bucks aday, mail them there checks so they can be picked up by the cops , they get theirs direct deposit ya know....
then Mr tea party tring to rush it the the house fast so now one can read it before hand.....hear a lot on PBS after Dr who....

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
I wish there was a right and quick answer to all this. I know the benefits are already cut so down they are almost not existent. I know the list of drugs my insurance doesn't covers is longer than the list that it does. It's disgusting. Medicare is not an entilament program. It makes me sick when they call it that.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
This all started because Gov. Walker wanted it so they couldn't bagain for health benifits. It escalated from there.
The ones that SHOULD be recalled are all those Dems that ran away from thier elected duties. The same party that put Wi in the financial mess it's now in.

Never a problem. Just send the money printing press, to each state, and pay all thier debts. Problem solved. And am still waiting for the check from Obama, for his contribution to me, for "equel justice".

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
It's true, unions are good for somethings, but lately they have been becoming too big for their britches. A unions' job is to defend its workers from oppression in the workplace, but now it doesn't care much about anybody but itself. It used to be, "What the Union can do for you." but now it's, "What have you done for your Union lately?" Did you know that for instance the teachers union rakes in more money than all the states allot for their budgets in education in any year? Where do they get all that money? From us, through our taxes. What are they going to do with that money? It doesn't go to help out any of the teachers who are in need of it right now with this problem...

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
It is true that unions have benefited most workers over the years. Because they have higher wages and benefits non-union people in like industries receive a higher wage and benefits than they would otherwise.
However, they are also not willing to negotiate reasonably.
A few examples----CF was closed after it's owner[s] repeatedly told the unions to back off over many years. That is where Con-Way came from.
There's many other trucking companies that closed because of union demands also.
They about completely bankrupted the auto industry in this country.
Those are just the ones I know about. I wonder how many more disappeared.

Re: newly elected gov. walker's anti Union bill
I got a buddy who works for UPS. He gets 37 dollars and hour. I know, WOW right? Wrong, the union gets 20 of that in dues per hour! They recently fought over a 9% raise, 6% for the union and 3% for the workers. What up with the 2 for me one for you bit?..

It shows how the union higher ups only care for themelves. Yet, when one union goes on strike, all the others are expected to join in. without compensation.
