Snow.....no problem
Actually we can get hit with snow, all it can bring as where I am it's such a part of life the road commission is on the ball...rarely a problem. My problem is the bitter sub zero cold, and we've been spared of that for the most part. In recent winters we've been getting more snow and less bitter cold, where a few years back we went through a decade of little snow but always bitter cold it seems. I saw 50 below here one time....not wind chill, actual. That's what I hate...so snow is well, just part of living here, I'm used to it, have never once ditched my car, had an accident..just Michigan to me.

Re: Snow.....no problem
I know, Ive probably bitched more about this than anyone else and I'm not ashamed of it. 1977 is the only year that I recall as being worse than this year and that's only because of one 2 day storm. This season has been 3 solid months of storm after storm, piercing winds and punishing cold temperatures. So many people were stranded, hurt in auto accidents, suffered incredible property damage or loss and sadly worse, lost their lives.

Re: Snow.....no problem
We shut down completely in the snow, particularly in the South of England. We only ever really get it for a few weeks maximum and then it is usually with a gap inbetween. Trouble is because it is so rare we don't have the skills or equipment to deal with it.
Now if you want to talk about the not so dangerous constant drizzle of rain..the Brits are experts

Re: Snow.....no problem
I'm with you Free. This has been a particularly bad year because we don't get a break. Its either snowing to the point the towns can't handle it or it's ice or its the winds or so much rain that everything gets flooded,or all at the same time. We don't get it this bad in this part of NJ normally but when we do its really bad. We also have a high population is seniors and they need special assistance that doesn't always happen in bad weather.
I know it just makes me hurt so I hate it. Bitching about it doesn't change it but it gives me something to do.lol
By the way 1995 was like this .I remember because I was pregnant and working and the roads got so bad even my bosses got to a point where they felt having a pregnant woman driving on these roads is crazy. So my clients had to come to the office to see me or do a phone conference in most cases. We had snow in April that year.Give us about two months then I will bitch about the heat and humidity.lol

Re: Snow.....no problem
Josie I bet you have all gotten to be experts at hair products for "Bad hair days" with the constant drizzle of rain. That alone would make some women run from there. Seriously I bet they have a lot of special products for dealing with the rain and humidity. But you must have great skin. My daughter always says she wants to live in a climate that has a lot of rain. (sometimes I wonder if she is mine)
If you ever saw the movie Twilight the town they live in would be her ideal weather if you asked her. I am much more the Arizona warm dry heat kind If I had a choice. For now I'm stuck in NJ.

In 1977, the year we had snow flurries in South central Florida. No big deal to me, as I've lived in Ohio, but everyone else was tripping that day.

Fun, ain't it.
I got the pleasure of driving in over a foot of snow in SC and about 1 inches in OK. The OK one was bad as everything was the same color. Had to guess where the road was. Have over 30" of snow at home.----or did, I know it's more now.

Re: Snow.....no problem
I would really like to experience that depth of snow and that kind of winter just once maybe. We have such level weather here on the whole, we flood from time to time though

Re: Snow.....no problem
Your welcome here for the winter Josie but I have a feeling you wouldn't stay for the whole thing. It sucks!
We were at my brother and sister in laws house and my sister in law had a niece staying over. We woke up to a huge snow storm that shut everything down. We were all pissed and her niece was so excited she borrowed boots, hat, gloves and coat and went out still in her PJ's and danced around.I can't remember if she was from Florida or California but she had never seen snow and she was I think about 19 maybe 21 at the time.We all just laughed at her. Then we tried to tell her how much "fun" it is to shovel out the driveway with the six cars and offered her the shovel. lol

Re: Snow.....no problem
a guy i use to work with told me Wisconsin was the coldest place in the nation, i would have to add Minnesota to the list too. as i can remember it being -20 or better for months at a time, the coldest morning being -45 below and no wind. seems this year we are getting a break its been mild mostly. as for storms seem we been getting it easy only two major snow and wind storms that i can remember, use to hate my job in winter , installing stuff and going out dropping off and picking up and then the wife mail route it was always snowing out on them days.and there has been plenty of them days , windy-snow blowing across the roads all most white out , the tundra you would think you see Nanook of the north in his snowshoes next and don't you eat that yellow snow.....

Re: Snow.....no problem
I can only say what I've read isn't at all uncommon here, not all winter usually but I guess the states that get it less often aren't as well prepared in terms of taking care of the roads??...we are almost never totally snowed in, and if so, not for long. Ice is a different story though knock on wood it is rare. I mean I drove probably 70 miles last night through a "storm?" that dropped about 6 inches of blowing snow and to me I just, well drove....I'd much rather have dry roads but it's just been what I've lived in and been used to my entire life....and here, due to the great lakes, winters can go either way. To predict the weather here is nearly impossible as far as meteorologists being accurate. They do their best but a change in wind direction and a storm can fall apart, or we have "snowbelts" that can get smacked hard and 20 miles east they get an inch or two...Like I said, the bitter cold is my problem...I'd not like a total non snow life. Less and a shorter winter would be great though! Someone kidnap meeeeeeee

What can I say I figure it's the neighborly thing to do. You are in MI. aren't you? I figure while I'm there and not doing anything while Kam is at work I might as well put my time to good use. lol
I also offered to be a good American and help with foreign relations by inviting Josie! See the snow is melting already. I think Free should come as well I hear it's really cold in Buffalo.I know its a tough job and my good will never ends, but someone has to to do it, I figure it might as well be me.

Summer VS. Winter? Hmmm. Lemme thing about that. Lets just say I've never had to mow the lawn several times in the same day.

Re: Snow.....no problem
Well, it was about 50 degrees when I got up 6 hours ago. Lots of snow melting. And guess what? Now its friggin snowing. And even better yet? The temperature is supposed to drop during the day down to around 13 and along with that, sleet and freezing rain. Why not.

Re: Snow.....no problem
I just had a vision of Kam coming home to this group and thinking "Oh hell, what the hell did I get myself into?" Of course then he would jump right in with a big smile . But I have a feeling Josie and I would have the biggest smiles. lol
As for your weather Free. Don't they have things to help forget that . I would be on antidepressants by now. I'm not a big fan of winter unless I'm snuggled up to someone nice and warm. I almost didn't let Kam out of bed last time I was there. It was fucking cold! Ok, that might have been the excuse I used to keep him in bed but still it was cold.
