NASCAR ?
I watched a little yesterday, just because I like to watch something I've never seen before.
Anyway, allot about it I don't know about. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
There's the two car pushing thing(when did they start doing that?) all the re-starts,(I thought they just drove round and round for so many laps) and the team thing. How many drivers to make one team?

Re: NASCAR ?
ok the pushing thing ,two cars are faster than one they have been doing it for awhile but the (new car) and the new surface at daytona made it a lot eazyer this year, the restarts if some body blows a engine or has a wreack they need to get the oil or broke parts or crashed cars out of the way ,plus have to make sure the drivers are not hurt , teams some have 2 cars some have 3 or 4 the most a owner can have is 4 teams ..... now to see the woods brothers back in winners circle at daytona ..man thats a good thing in my book any day .. traiver baynes earned that win all day up front pushing every body and to have a vetran like bobby labonte help him get there at the end says some think for the respect they have for this kid not only as a rookie but a driver wow ! 2 races in nascar and wins daytona ...

Re: NASCAR ?
Thanks Twizzted,
The impression of NASCAR to a non-fan is just cars going around and around, but a few minutes of watching, I see there's so much more to it.
Who decides the teams, drivers or owners?

Re: NASCAR ?
the owners buy how ever many car numbers they want (up to 4)then put together a team for each car most car owners have been in nascar for years hendrick motor sports has been in a long time so the buy the same car numbers every year. childress racing who dale earnhart sr.raced for buys the number 3 every year so no one else can use it and all the other teams know this and as a tribute to dale earnhart sr. no one has ever ask to use it nor will they. the man still has the most merchindice sold at the track than any other driver. toyota came to nascar in the truck sereis and moved up from there with a 2 car team and as done some good plus they still do alot of factory backing on all the toyota cars there are alot of teams out there ,a record number of cars tryed to make the field this year over 50 some thing teams to get 43 starting spots and 35 of those are take by the top 35 in points from last year

Re: NASCAR ?
It's not uncommon for many teams to try for starting Daytona and other major races. The prizes total over $2 million. Winners take home about half of that.
The two car thing I thought was one of the most boring races at Daytona. Sure, it's been happpening in one form or another for many years. However, not to this extreame.
They need to make the cars so a driver can at least have the possibility to make a pass on his own..

Re: NASCAR ?
I used to watch in the 60s-70s, when it was about a man and his car. Now it's all about corporate sponsors and cubic dollars, I lost interest long ago, besides I can go to Hershey Park and watch the merry-go-round for a few hours and see the same thing, just replace the horses with cars LOL.

Re: NASCAR ?
The start of NASCAR is the reason why I haven't been on in a long time. My boss runs one of the wreckers for the race at Daytona. He leaves the week before and stays the week after. Lucky me get to cover his hours at work for half the money...WoopDeeDooo!...Now I'm just waiting for either the Pokenos (no spell check for that one) but they are in NY and/or Louden NH before he goes on the next adventure leaving holding the bag again...

How loud is it? Do you loose your hearing or get tinitus for awhile afterwards?

Re: NASCAR ?
Never been to a straight NASCAR event. Went to the Grand Prix when the circuit came through Detroit, both on Belle Isle and when they ran the street race. It was loud, but not incredibly so.

Re: NASCAR ?
I have never been to Nascar. Is it louder than Manhattan ? I know I have never been walking in Manhattan and not heard sirens screaming, horns honking, cab drivers screaming at people, the people screaming back and normally giving them the finger as well as normal traffic noise and of course that lovely sound of trucks going those medal plates and then the slamming of those metal doors. I have been to a demolition derby . That was pretty loud but not to bad.

I was at a bush race in E St Lious a few years ago. It's really loud. I could start t hear better the next morning. That was the purpose of sitting in the row closest to the track though.

it can be loud take a good pair of shooting ear muffs. or get some with radios built in so you can tune in and listen to the drivers and pit crews
