I Am Terrified
My daughter, who is 7 months pregnant, just called and told me that she has the stomach flu. She wants me to come over and pick up her 1 year old and keep her for the day. Dont mis understand, I love her to death, but the thought of taking care of the 2 foot tall tyrant by myself, scares the crap outta me. She gets finger prints on my glass tables, picks up things off of tables and puts them where they dont belong, hides my remotes and pulls the strings on my guitars. Oh yeah, and then theres the whole diaper thing. I have already called my other daughters, my sisters, my nieces, even my 80 year old Mother and told them to get here as soon as possible. The local police hung up on me so I am doing to call the State Troopers next. I implore all of you, please, PRAY FOR ME!!!!!!!!

Re: I Am Terrified
I am not fully believing this After all you had daughters before you had grandaughters!
and if it is that bad I may pray for her rather than you..

Re: I Am Terrified
just tune your guitar (after she pulls the strings), and sing her a lullabye...

Re: I Am Terrified
TAKE A DEEP BREATH!!!!
You might be shocked to find that they can actually be a lot of fun. Being that she is not going to be there long and I don't know your house. Take anything that is valuable or dangerous and put it put of her reach . THEN ASSUME SHE CAN STILL GET THEM SO WATCH HER! Now ignore all the figure prints til she goes home. Get on her level. It put you both at ease. Sit with your guitar in your lap and don't be too surprised if she tries to help play it with you. Kids love music and normally will just be mesmerized if you play for them. Maybe there is some way you can get her a little cheep toy or child's guitar. That will teach her how to handle a guitar and hopefully stop pulling your strings off. My kids loved that. If all else fails there is always the damn idiot box I'm sure you have cable or DVDs there will be some dumb show that little kids like I strongly suggest staying away from Barny for your own sanity.I love kids you can always call me.Good luck.

Re: I Am Terrified
Ok, I am officially exhausted. It wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. I actually had a blast. I have box under the coffee table full of guitar picks. She knew it. She dumped them on the floor and went over and started to strum one of my guitars. I picked up one guitar and started to play Twist And Shout, and she just stared at me. Then I played I Wanna Hold Your Hand and she moved off the rug, onto the hardwood floor and to my surprise, started to do the Twist. I couldnt believe it! That kid must be reincarnated from the 60's. She made me laugh so hard and it got to the point that I even had to question who was the kid, and who was the adult.
The best (sorry) part was, my ex came to pick her up and she ran to me, jumped in my arms, pointed to my ex and yelled "NO, No, No!"
Yeah, the little shit has me wrapped around her little finger.
Bottom line, it was a good day.

Re: I Am Terrified
Thanks to all of you guys. Yeah Jo, say a prayer for her! And Kiss? That would NEVER happen. All I can say is that I am in love with this little creature who makes every attempt to defy me, rubs her little baby hand across the whiskers on my face and yells "ouch", runs away and then runs across the room, jumps in my lap and kisses me with those little baby lips and then runs away again. I cant remember the last time I laughed as much as I did today!

Re: I Am Terrified
I'm so proud of you. I knew you could do it!They are amazing aren't they? I was just saying that every age seems to have the great and , well lets just say not so great parts. But the great definitely out weight the not so great part. Even if they are exhausting they are worth it. They grow up so fast and get to a point where they are independent and don't want to spend as much time with us. You should take as many of these types of moments that you had today and cherish them.
Of course she has you wrapped around her adorable little finger ,that's how it should be. lol. My mother says Grandchildren are revenge for having put up with us as teenagers. She also says as a grandparent it is her job (which she does very well and takes very seriously)to spoil the grandchildren and them return them to the parents.
I glad you enjoyed your day with your grand-daughter , but to be honest I knew you would.

Re: I Am Terrified
Yep, I knew you would be just fine too!
I love having kids around and not being arrogant here, but they love me too. I think we are on the same wavelength - hence me being a godmother 15 times so far and just about to take on another little angel too.
Speaking of which I am busy at the minute childproofing my house as my great nephew (2) is arriving this afternoon - YAY!!!!

Much better thanks. Fortunately, it was only a 24 hour thing. And she has another girl on the way. Naturally, I wanted her to have a boy and tried to get it changed, but it turns out that once the order has placed, no alterations are allowed.

Re: I Am Terrified
I am just going to have to come visit you guys when the little one are born. I love kids. Mine kids are all grown but not ready for kids yet(well my daughter is only 15 so she definitely isn't ready yet!). The closest I have to grandchildren is my sons cat .lol
Isn't it funny how little kids just bring some seemingly strong adults to their knees. lol Don't feel bad Free, I've seen bigger guys than you get taken down by infants. One dirty diaper and they fall apart. lol
