Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
Geocaching

Apparently its a GPS scavenger hunt type of game. I never heard of it until today. It is supposed to be very popular. The closest I have ever seen was in scouts when the kids had to use compasses and understand topography in order to find things. Have you hear of this or played this?

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
Funnily enough we were talking about this yesterday at a family dinner. My niece and nephew and their partners and friends are off out on a weekend away of it on their motorbikes soon.

A treasure hunt using GPS co-ordinates from a web-site and then your own GPS units to go find and hunt them. The global community is very friendly apparantly. It has an element of Geek about it, but I like the fact that is getting them all outside and in a group doing something than sitting at home in front of the TV

It's valuable experience too. Even though it uses GPS, it should also teach them to pay atention to where they are and how to get back to somewhere safe. Should that be necessary.

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
I think it sounds awesome. I have a fair sense of direction, I guess it goes with my fair amount of common sense. I can always find my way back to my car, even in large areas full of cars. And, I can determine N,E,S,W.

I think a big part is helping them be aware, identify, and concentrate on items. I can't see it being a bad game. I'll have to look into for my nephew.

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
The more I read about it, I realized how much fun this can be. As I stated similar the scout thing but amped up to a GPS. I have no sense of direction at all. Fortunately I do know how to use a compass and some knowledge of GPS. I love when I'm driving and my GPS is giving me directions and I make a wrong turn anyway and it yells at me "RECALCULATING" lol
It sounds like it can be interesting from what I have read. They can be very simple to very complex with prizes along the way as in a scavenger hunt and prizes to the winners. OK maybe It's a bit of a geek thing but I like those kind of things.

I know there was a post I found that said there are groups looking for empty medication bottles to put stuff in for these types of scavenger hunts. That's how I found out about it.I just wondering what they plan on putting in the bottles . lol

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
I've not done it but a friend and his son do it together. The prizes are usually along the line of McDonald's toys type of things - nothing expensive. As I was told, you take something, you leave something. Some have notepads where you write something about yourself or an interesting tidbit for the next person to learn. The prize then is learning from others.

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
Why do I get the feeling with this group it would be a slightly more adult rated XXX version? lol

Thank you. The post didn't say what they put in the containers but I understand that now. That is similar to other scavenger type contests I have seen.

I have managed to confuse spell check, and my GPS from my car so I wonder how many technologies I can completely fuck up? You know when they sell these things they say "you can't get lost".That is like the kiss of death for me! In my town alone there are six different places that would be listed with the same intersections even though they are really in different places. It always asks to find my location by satellite vs me entering the starting location. lol It also doesn't like all the water ways, tunnels etc..I know they have gotten better but depending on the type you have HELL YES YOU CAN GET LOST.

For the record don't follow them blindly or you could find yourself underwater or going down a one way street the wrong way. No, I haven't done it but some idiot tried to sue the manufacture for things like that. It always amazes me, just when I think people can't possibly be that dumb someone proves me wrong. lol. I love when it tells me to turn at a street that doesn't exist either anymore or yet at that location because they haven't finished building it.

There will never be another Freddie Mercury. The closest you would ever get is a "lookalikey" (I love that word. I am going to steel it. Hope you don't mind.I have a list of great things I steal from you guys but I always give you credit.)

By the way, which way is west? Can you please just point!

"Sadly I only do Nurses and cheerleaders"

Josie....Really? Exactly what do you mean by "I only do nurses and cheerleaders?" I might have to go get a uniform.I'm thinking we might have to come up with a different kind of uniform for Kam, he doesn't look that good in a skirt. LOL (Sorry honey ,I was trying to picture it in my head and just laughed my ass off. That's not usually the reaction your going for.)

Yeah, I know it's .Too bad. Some things just need to be clarified and questions need to be asked.lol

Re: Anyone hear of "Geocaching"?
Well still , but I "do" lots of skirted types, but in general nurses and cheerleaders are what suit me. Make what you want of that! Although happy to play Doctor Patient.....lol

Am sure that on the right kind of gps search I can think of several places that I would consider suitable for finding a prize in

A practical at the Business Regulatory Authority? That sounds like a bit of a handful.

I think I'm well prepared for the oral at the Criminal Libel Investigatory Team - it's on the tip of my tongue.

Oh this is going into a whole different thread now. And now I definitely won't be able to sleep.LMAO And last I checked I think I still have the interview information you sent. Sounds better than any interview I ever had before.

As for the regulatory group thing(The BRA.Really?Do they just refer to that group as BRA? ) you were talking about. I can't even make my brain work this early in the morning to decipher what the hell your talking about but I do know we don't have them here and I think I'm happy about that. lol

GGEEEZZZ I so need to sleep so my brain kicks in again!
