Feb. 2
Groundhog saw his shadow. EARLY SPRING HERE WE COME!!
Another February 2nd has arrived and once again, the spotlight is squarely on the shadows of groundhogs nationwide.
For years I've wondered. What's so magical about a groundhog's shadow? What kind of forecasting powers do these furry little rodents possess that I don't? The pride of Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil, and General Beauregard Lee of Atlanta, GA. were accurate less than 40% of the time. If my accuracy was that poor, I'd find a hole, jump in and never come out. Truth is, you're better off expecting the opposite of what these groundhogs predict. Maybe Phil and Lee purposely lie. Can you blame them? How annoyed would you be if you were dragged from a warm, cozy den half asleep, into the bitter cold for everyone to see? Of course, we know the yearly ritual is all in good fun and rooted in folklore originating in the 1800's.

(laughing) Well Kiss, if you're numbers are accurate, the rodents are correct more often than the Meteorologists!

I don't think you'd do that. You could be a meteorologist or [shudders] politician.

Re: Feb. 2
Here's the report.
The National Weather Service
is calling for a big blizzard thing.
They are. But there's another reason
why today is especially exciting.
Especially cold.
The big question
on everybody's lips-
On their chapped lips.
Do you think Phil will come out
and see his shadow?
- Punxsutawney Phil.
- That's right, woodchuck chuckers.
It's Groundhog Day!

They refuse to fly because they heard about what I had to deal with from the damn airlines!

I don't know about the 3 1/2 months of winter here, but it's going to be another 10 weeks worth. I just hope that it doesn't linger on more than that. Then it will be 3 1/2 months. I'm tired of it already and want the warm weather.

Re: Feb. 2
That had to suck big time! Why were they even out there in a storm? I'm sorry but if your out in a nasty storm and that happens you should have to pay for the rescue! Arizona has a stupid people law. I am starting to think it should be put in place in many situations in all states. If you do something that is so stupid that it not only puts your life on the line but others as well and it costs the tax payers money for your stupidity then you should be responsible for it. Common sense has to come into play with some things.Yes I know common sense is an oxymoron.

The first line confused me enough that I had to look it up. According to Phil's website: According to legend, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does NOT see his shadow, there will be an early spring. Hmmm,so are we doomed or not?...

Re: Feb. 2
He DID NOT see his shadow .So we are supposed to have an early spring. Maybe that's why we are having all the storms (3 more this week per the weather report!). Mother nature is trying to get them in before spring comes.
I thing we should just take the rodent out at night in the dark or put a damn umbrella over him so we have an early spring every year.
