Re: good things in the oven
That's it Ashkats! You should come with a warning BAD for your diet. lol OMG everything you mentioned sounds so good. Could you possibly send me some of those recipes? I have made a strawberry bread and banana bread but Cherry Braid? That sounds great. And anything with cinnamon is amazing if you ask me. Its second only to chocolate.I said after you posted the temperatures of where you live I would never go there but that lineup of baked goods might get me to go there even during the winter.

I love making bread. Thank you.
My only issue now is weather I should be thanking you or spanking you? You have to stop making all this sound so damn good. lol

Re: good things in the oven
now for the braid,
take half the recipe for sweet dough,
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 to 1/2 cup of chopped nuts
3/4 teaspoon of Cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter or marg. softened
1/3 cup of apricot or peach preserves , i have used fresh peeled apples and cherry pie filling so far....
then the glaze
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3 to 4 teaspoons of milk .... i double it so i have enough glazing syrup.
grease two cookie sheets
in small bowl mix nut , sugar and Cinnamon : set aside
after dough has rested, prepare 1/2 as follows, cut in half, roll out to a rectangle 12 x 6.
place on cookie sheet, spread half the butter, and half the preserves, and half the cinnamon/sugar mix lengthwise down the center of the rectangle, cut one inch wide strip down each side next to filling, fold each side like braiding ..at a angle for us don't know how to braid.
cover with towel and let rise till double about 45 minutes.
heat oven to 350, bake 25 to 30 min. till light golden brown ,,,, the darker the more crusty it gets
remove from sheets quickly and let cool.
glaze with glaze......
and yes its good , don't eat it all lol......

Re: good things in the oven
OMG I would like to be able to fit in the bed when I am done. I do still have other things to do beside bake so it might be a while till I get to it all.
He is just upset because I'm still mad at him for the last baking fiasco!
Any women women that reads this will soon be asking why I let him live after this. I bake and decorate cakes. I mean really decorate cakes like you see in bakeries and magazines. I have all the tools, gadgets and supplies at home. I obviously wasn't home. For his fathers birthday I said I will make the birthday cake. I told him I wanted to decorate it and explained I didn't have any of my tools and so on. So for the next TWO DAYS he brought me to two or three grocery stores looking for things and listened to me curse and complain about the crappy stuff I was using and I wish I had the proper tools and supplies. I asked if there were any other grocery stores or maybe a Michael's or even a Walmart that I could actually get some decent supplies to make these cakes(Yes I made more than one)look somewhat nice because using this cheap crap, it just isn't coming out as nice as I would like.He looks at me and says "Would a cake decorating store work?" I was in shock. The "CAKE DECORATING STORE" was across the street from his house and huge and had everything known to man for decorating cakes cookies, candy etc..I was not happy with him as he laughed through the entire store while I cursed under my breath at him.

Re: good things in the oven
I am going to look at these and see if I can do anything Without ruining them. There actually is a site that takes recipes and tells you how to make them healthier without changing the taste or texture. Salt is so not an issue with me. He actually told me to eat more salt. I have low blood pressure and get dehydrated a lot. But the site tells you things you can substitute to make things lower in cholesterol or what ever your need is. Now I just need to find it again. lol
Thanks again.

Re: good things in the oven
That's what you get for being that insane to go fishing at this time of year. Did anyone happen to mention its the middle of winter to you? We are in the middle of yet another storm I might not go out till spring!School half day today and tomorrow already cancelled. chances are no school on Friday either. My kid might be in school all summer to make up these snow days.I guess I should start baking to have something to eat. I never made it to the damn store gggrrrrr.

Re: good things in the oven
the Grocery store that i work at has fresh bakery items, like bread, donuts and buns delivered on a daily basis. the company owns three other Super Value stores and a Cub foods. they bake the breads at the main store, and the donuts are shipped in from Cub. they have their own delivery truck and bring out the assorted goodies to the other two stores, it's about a 45 minute drive. i really wish my store had their own bakery. i would most definitely work in that department, i love to bake....
