Re: 10 Resolutions You Should Never Make
They always say you should never make a new years resolution to do something that means a lot as you will normally fail.
However I think it all depends on the person - and so I have quit smoking after 16 years and will keep my fingers crossed I don't become one of the above failure statistics

QUOTE (perveman @ January 2, 2011, 11:37)
#10, is one for the age's, is still true today. Plz don't try to change him, not happening, ever! The only one who can change a man, is himself. Myself for example: You can tell an Englishman from a mile away, but when he's up close, you can't tell him anything. By the same token, if a man say's he understands women, he'll lie about anything.
The tradegy of human relations
A woman marries a man hoping he will change; but he won't.
A man marries a woman hoping she won't change; but she does.

That resolution is too important to make on new years day. The potential for failure is too great. I did the same last year, except I didn't start until the 17th. A week from Tuesday will be a year for me, smoke-free...
Take it from someone who knows what your undertaking, let me pass you some advice.
1. Pick an off day to quit. If you go with the first of the month, it's too easy to remember when you quit and counting the days make it all the harder to stay quit.
2. Have a quiting system already before you quit. Going cold-turkey doesn't work and it's fine if you want to do that, but having something else to fall back on when the urge comes back like gang-busters is better than failing all together. I used the Electronic-cigarette method and it worked for me. I toke it once a week now if that.
3. Don't tell anyone that you are quiting and what day you decided to do it on. Some of them mean well when they ask, "So, how many days does that make for you?", but it's a constant reminder and thats not good. Others will try to tempt with cigarettes from friends and themselves thinking, if you fail they won't feel so bad in their weak attempts...

I can tell you are for real on the smoking and good for you.I quit and went back. You could not be more right about all of what you said. I used the electronic cigarettes as well and they did work wonders and recommend them to anyone trying to quit.

Re: 10 Resolutions You Should Never Make
Thanks to you all for the advice guys xxxx
I am using some NRT to help quit this time and have been planning it for a while so feel somewhat prepared for it.
Funnily enough I chose a Thursday (6th) to quit as it wasn't the first day back at work after the holidays and it wasn't a weekend where I would have too much time on my hands.
Day 3 now and there are some rough moments, but am feeling good about the decision which is a bonus I think. Anyway thanks for the hints and tips and support - luv to you all xxx

Well, if you need something to keep your hands/lips occupied then just let me know. I have something about the same size as a cigarette :-(
