Remake
I'm not sure if we've mentioned this before, but I just heard they are remaking "True Grit"
At first I thought great, they never make Western's anymore. Then when I heard it was a John Wayne movie, it just didn't sound right to me.
What are some of your favorite or least favorite remakes?

It looks good! I was listening to the advertisement of the movie, and again, first thing I was amazed a Western was being made. Second, I recognized the story line. Third, it stars Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, and Josh Brolin. Need I say more?!

Re: Remake
The last good "newer" westerns I've seen are "3:10 to Yuma" with Russel Crowe, and Brad Pitt in "The Assination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"
I really wish they'd make more westerns, I don't mind 'em being remakes at all.

Re: Remake
Westerns have kinda gone out of fashion, tho open range and appaloosa were great movies, 310 to yuma was good but kinda weird.
Tombstone has got to be one of my favorites, Val Kilmer does an amazing Doc Holiday

The previews seem interesting. I'm sure it'll be a lot more graphic than the original.

Re: Remake
Favorite remake...
Copolla's version of Dracula
Least favs...
The Vanishing
And Rat Race.... Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World was far cooler
The Pink Panther, wasn't a great movie and I'm a huge Peter Sellers fan, but Steve Martin's characterization was better than I expected.
Cape Fear. The original was far more compelling. But De Niro would have scared the crap out of me.

Re: Remake--- Update
Just for the record, I'v heard from a few reliable sources, the new True Grit movie, is sensational. One friend said it is the best movie he has seen in 15 years, and that even his cheap ass would pay to see it again.

It seems so from the previews. I'll wait for the dvd though. Same for the new "Yogi" movie. That's also promissing. the previews sound like they got the voices correct.

Re: Remake
Saw the new true grit, then I went and saw it again, this is a gritty great movie. not your standard shoot em up, but its got some gun fights, they're all great and well done. The best thing about this movie is the dialog, the victorian era language is very present in this movie which takes place in 1880 if im not mistaken. The acting is sensational. It does have a few very raw parts to it. Now I need to go watch the original(one of the few John Wayne movies I missed)

Didn't know they were doing Spartacus again. I hope they don't mess it up.
I have showtime I will check it put.
I Loved Arthur. I happen the think the guy that is doing the remake is really funny but I would think he would have to play it very different and make it his own or it will suck. Dudley Moore did such a great job with the original.I would like to see it just to see how Russell Brad plays the character.

Re: Remake
I've watched bits and pieces of the 2009, Escape to Witch Mountain with Dwayne Johnson, and I must say it does not appear to be a kids movie. It appears dark, with guns, and dioalogue way over the head of a teenager.
Not that anyone ran out to see the movie, however, I have found memories of the original starring Eddie Albert, Kim Richards, and Ike Eisenmann. The last two played the and make a cameo appearance in the movie.

Re: Remake
I think I would see anything Johnny Depp does. I love to see his twist on things.I personally think his mind is so unique and even if you think he is strange you have to admit he is original and willing to take chances that most wouldn't have the balls to try. Who else would have played the pirate so gay and still be as freaking hot even with rotted teeth and filthy. I can't think of anyone else who could have pulled that off the way he did.I believe when his life and career end he will be listed as one of the best ever. Robert Downey Jr. is another person I feel is just as talented and balls to do things other would never take on.He will also be listed as one of the greats when he is done.

I was so looking forward to watching Conan the Barbarian, (2011), however, after the few initial scenes I found the movie, dark, bloody, gory, dark, bloody, gory, gross, dark, violent, bloody, and gory. Sex (too dark to see). Dark, bloody, gory. I forgot to mention fighting. There was a lot of fighting, and blood spurting. THE END.

I just saw an ad that TNT is bringing back Dallas. Not re-runs. Its a modern day series with most of the original living cast. Looks like no Victoria Principal though, but all the rest are on board.
