Empathy
I had a day at work that couldnt get any closer to being in hell without kicking the bucket. I know that everyone has bad days but I read something the other day that really hit home with me. In order for me to get "activated" at work someone else is having a crisis.Devistation is my life most days.Some days its very very rewarding but I usually only get called upon when the shit hits the fan.Dont get me wrong..I love what I do...some days I just need a little pat on the back and a"it's gonna be ok" from someone.Know what I mean?

I forget which part of the public safety realm you run in Fire, if I remember right, but there are days that just got to suck. Days that also bring you highs. Nor do I know if you are in the city itself or one of the 'burbs. But for one, who's life you may save at some future point. Thanks. You chose a career path I could never do.

I have a friend who will be retiring in a couple of years. He has worked in Tampa, Florida his entire career. Now his 20 year old son is beginning his career as a firefighter.
