Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Well, I knonw, if anyone is...they wouldn't be able to read and reply to this, but has anyone heard anyone mention any problems?
I'm posting this for robinragnorok, he's using a mobile device to access the site, he was able to access the forums before, but is having problems now, he gets an error message that says...
"The page you requested can not be displayed"
So anyone who uses a mobile device, and has any suggestions for him?

Re: Any problems accessing the forums lately?
It depends on the network he uses and if he is on 3g or on an Internet connection. I find that when my phone is using Internet it works better than 3G. Sometimes if I'm in a bad area that can affect it as well.I have also learned that you can download different browsers to your phones now. I have 2 different ones and sometimes using one vs the other it works better. I don't know his provider or what type of phone he is using so I can't give more specific info than that. He wont be able to get into live chat even though we have Java on our phones now so that is another issue he might not understand. That has to do with lack of browser support from what I was told.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Just bumping this up for the night...if anyone with a VIP membership thinks they can help robinragnorok with his phone accessing problems, would you please contact him?
I'm doing my best by doing a third party here, but I'm not that familiar with mobile devices, internet phones.
I never will be, I think they are marvelous, but I've been vision impaired pretty much my entire life, there's no way I'm every gonna use a phone to surf the net, I can guarantee that.
So, any help would be so appreciated!

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
I just don't need a phone like that, I have a basic cell phone that I throw in my purse before I leave the house, just in case, but I rarely every use it.
All my reading has to be done online, where I can adjust the page settings for larger text, and I have to adjust and soften the contrast and brightness.
So, no chance of me getting at all familiar with the newer smart phones and hand helds.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Don't know if this helps either of you but...
There are Internet phones that have apps and features that you can just speak too and they read out things to you as well Examples mine will read out my text messages and caller Id etc.. with the way I have it set. WARNING turn that feature off when in places not appropriate or you can have your smart ass kids or friends send very explicit or other inappropriate messages during things like parent teacher conferences because they think its funny!
You can also adjust background colors and contrast as well as screen text size and even enlarge pictures. They are basically smaller computers these days. Some companies offer special deals especially if you have a disability. You can even get these phones free or very cheep when they run specials that's how I got mine.Even the data plans have come down alot and again sometimes they offer discounts even free plans to people with a disability or certain income limits. Call the corp number to get info do not ask at the store or basic cust service they normally don't have this information or work on commission so wont be too helpful.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
The old laptop I'm using now has a 14" screen, the phone features are innovative and very cool, but it's still on a tiny screen with a tiny keyboard. I wouldn't own anything with a smaller screen than what I'm using, and even now with the minimum percentage of magnification I can get by on, I still have to scroll a bit to see the whole page.
I hope robinragnorok gets his problem fixed, he's such a nice guy , and it would be nice to have him back again.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Okay, here's the details I got from Robin, if anyone can help with any suggestions, greatly appreciated!!!
"..a Sanyo mobile phone the model is INCOGNITO. It is 3G, and is on the Sprint/BOOST unlimited monthly program. I am not sure of the browser, but I blieve it to be a form of firefox developed for the mobile web. I know of no way to use another browser or load it properly. I have JAVA, but it does not work in the chat area and I can't upgrade what I already have I've tried"

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Not sure why he would be having trouble posting in the Forums, especially since he seems able to send an e-mail. However all of my friends have said in the past that they can't enter the chatrooms from a mobile phone.
I believe Newbie gave that a mention a little way up this thread, but at least he can know that entering chat is out from a phone.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
I've passed on Newbies reply to him, he already knew about the chatroom java thing.
It's weird, he was able to see the forums and post, but the past few days he cannot. So I don't know if that is a browser thing? It would seem that if it were the browser, he would have had the problem from the start?
Such a shame, such a nice friendly guy, I wish I could do more to help him out here.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
It is very possible they did an upgrade that has messed him up that happened to me then they fixed it about 2 days later with a new update to the droid. He can call them or browse the apps store for another browser.Try the browser "SKYFIRE". It works pretty well.
Sorry to all the Sprint users out there for this but...the other problem could be the network itself Sprint is just not very good. Does he use 3g to try to get on or an actual wifi. My phone will use wifi when available and it works much better than 3G. Unfortunately there are so many variables it's hard to say what the issue is. He can also try calling customer service and see if they can walk him through it. He might have changed some settings as well or put some blocks on his account. I know that Verizon put a block on something for one of my lines by mistake at one point so it does happen. You can normally look at your account on-line to check that.

Re: Any problems accessing the forums (Mobile Device/phone users)
Howdy Folks!!!! Wow you folks have really tried to help! So good to see that. CHAZZY outddid herself... Nice gal. Well, tonight I have hit 3 threads in a row after getting an apology from BOOST. It seems a tower went down after the last storm a few days back. I really didn't think much of it but said to myself "what the heck" and here I am. So very strange all my other service never changed a lick. I did check out the skyfire browser. Really grat software it is! But it was written for iphone and droid. Seems my Sanyo is a really new model and not much available that I want. In a month or 2 that could change though. I really appretiate all the comments and brainstorming! You know I just bet that this thread may help another poor soul some day so it certainly was not wasted writing.
Cheers!
Robin
