Re: Netiquette...or Internet etiquette
Okay, after posting this entire article, I first want to say.
This is a pretty casual site, we are not that concerned with grammar and spelling, we don't much care if you choose to emphasis a word or thought with your cap locks on.
Since all this came up because of the cap lock thing, I'm going to focus on that.
If you choose to use all caps, or type entirely with your cap locks on, then you are running a high risk of your intentions being misunderstood...do it if you want, but it is considered yelling, shouting or aggressive everywhere on the internet not just this site. This is not my rule, or the site's rule....it's just common internet etiquette. I am not, nor ever plan on being the "Cap Lock Bitch"
I don't care, unless....your choice of using caps causes a misunderstanding or a problem, then a moderator might have to step up and take some sort of action.
I would think, it would just be better to avoid the cap locks.
We all want this site to be fun, casual, a place were we can laugh with each other, and laugh at ourselves, a place where people not familiar with forums, can learn from warm, helpful friendly people
Anyone have any questions, anyone have any comments, issues to resovle...no problem,I'm happy to talk to any of you right here or by private message about this whole cap lock thing.
I am really sorry for all this, I don't want a fuss over nuttin'...but I see that something simple has been misunderstood, and I'll take all the time necessary to clear things up.

Re: Netiquette...or Internet etiquette
What I copied and pasted here, are not this site's rules.
That's what I want to clear up. Things like hijacking a thread, typing in all caps fall under internet etiquette.
Which means, no matter where you go on the internet, these things in the article I posted here are at least, frowned upon.
This article is just one of dozens, maybe even hundreds out there, and they all pretty much say the same thing.
We don't type in all caps because it's a sign of shouting and/or aggression everywhere on the internet, and as we have seen in the past, it can cause misunderstandings about one's tone, emotion and intent. So, it's a bad habit that's all.
We see allot of hijacking here too, I'm not too concerned about it unless we end up with the same two or more people that turn every topic into a private conversation. That too, is considered rude and it's considered rude everywhere on the internet.
We are pretty casual here, don't care if you post something with a typo, don't care if you don't use spell check, don't care if you use slang. We are casual here, but if necessary, yes....you might be asked to knock off the hijacking or unlock your caps if you indulge excessively in these habits.

Re: Netiquette...or Internet etiquette
Yeah, look, I started the controversy about the capslock thing.
I believed there was a hard and fast, no second chance, rule that this site imposed. And I understood that to mean irrespective of the content.
Sure, I know that what the guy typed wasn't offensive, but for the reason I just mentioned, I did say something.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything; and as I said, I was not a moderator, whose role it would be to tell him.
But, as I also said, I tried to be lighthearted and gentle in my 'rap over his knuckles', and acting as a member who is able to act as a moderator, as all members can to chastise (or even help get removed) offenders.
So I apologise if I upset anyone.
Having said that though, it isn't such a bad idea to open up the whole netiquette issue to remind everyone of our responsibilities to one another - on, or off- line.
Peace.

Re: Netiquette...or Internet etiquette
Yeah, stuff happens, like the forums to be a little loose and casual.
We all had to learn this stuff at time or another. Awwww shoot, me and JesseJames use to be the worst hijackers, and I use to have several bad habits. I learned etiquette by annoying the crap out of KB, she let me know, I researched it, I'm grateful she let me know I needed to do that.
You're alright longtack, if you or anyone notices someone using the cap lock in the chatroom, don't mind at all if ya give 'em a friendly reminder about it. It's for their own good, other sites, other people may not be so kind at explaining the etiquette rule to them.

Re: Netiquette...or Internet etiquette
The email stuff made me giggle, hubs uses a dark patterned stationary with a color font for years, but recently, some of his people he emails asked him to please, please change it...it's too difficult to read!
I agree with them, it looks cool, but way too hard to read.

You guys are great!
Especially you Chazzy.
