Nightime fire awareness
They had this on tv this am.
The question was what would you do if your smoke alarm went off while you were asleep?
My response was----- I probably wouldn't be home and, shut off smoke alarm and go back to sleep. [if there wasn't smoke]
They did a 2 fold test on a family. First had them asleep and just woke 'em to leave the house. Second they injected theatrical smoke and woke 'em again. Then the fire department pointed out what they should do.

Re: Nightime fire awareness
I would WANT to go back to sleep, but wouldnt be able to until I had checked all over to be sure nothing was actually wrong.

Re: Nightime fire awareness
That had to be a bad, bad thing Ash....
I live in a very old house, I know allot of the wiring has been redone, but I'm too aware that there's still some to do.
It does worry me a bit.

Re: Nightime fire awareness
we could never have a smoke alarm being when you open the door it goes off you have to pull the battery, i think the fireplace will be the same way

Re: Nightime fire awareness
Our alarms are so sensitive they go off when I am using the grill to cook!
Am very aware of the dangers of fire though, so live in a ground floor flat with wide windows..

Re: Nightime fire awareness
I had this happen a few times. Once at a hotel I WAS NOT HAPPY! It was also a dorm during the school year. The alarm system was new and it was a malfunction. Why does that always happen at 4:30am? We got up and out when it went off. The other times were in my house growing up. It was an old house and a problem with the furnace. We got up, saw smoke, got out, called the fire dept. Only to find out later my idiot brother who had a attic room and wasn't supposed to even be home slept through the whole thing. Once in my house here but never found out why and it never did it again but my son was a volunteer fireman and he checked everything and couldn't find a thing wrong. We didn't leave the house that time.
