Re: vhs tapes
Someday, you'll do the same thing with DVDs... And then Blue Rays... And then Memory Implants...

Re: vhs tapes
I know what you mean. We have a bookcase full of them also, and don't know what we are going to do with them. Hate to throw them away, good movies on them. Been trying to replace them with DVD, but not always able to find them. Of course now we have started to buy the Blue Ray movies. But then they'll come out with the 3-D movies, when will it ever end?

Re: vhs tapes
I've got no problem throwing stuff away, I'm the one that has to dust, clean, and find storage room for all the crap.
Hubs gets an emotional attachment to things especially from his teen to young adult party years...I'm still trying to talk him into getting rid of his cassette music tapes.

Re: vhs tapes
I bought a VHS / DVD player recorder and transferred mine from VHS to DVD. Tapes tend to get old and brittle. Unfortunately, the quality of the tape, good or bad, is what transfers to the disc, but the discs take up far less space and don't denigrate like tapes do. You can take them somewhere and have them done professionally, but if you buy your own, you can save a lot of money. Another bonus is that just like with a VCR, you can record television shows and home movies from your camcoder and save them on DVD. They used to be expensive, but just like anything, they've come down dramatically in price. Hope that's helpful

Re: vhs tapes
Did a quick google search and there's nothing wrong with just throwing out the tapes, but recycling centers do love them as the plastics are easily reusable.
Oh, and the way the 3D movies are being developed, it is actually possible for the TV to take regular Blueray movies and make them 3D. I'm not sure if it can for regular DVDs, but I would assume its just a quality thing at that point. I know the PS3 is working on an update that will make all of their games work in 3D, but I'm not sure if its going to work on the PS1/PS2 games for the people with a backwards compatible PS3.
Also, don't waste your money on a 3D specific TV. All of the TVs lately have a means to update their firmware, and adding in the 3D functionality is easy to do. They're also working on a variety of new ways to create the 3D effect without the need for those stupidly expensive glasses.

Re: vhs tapes
Surely transferring them to DVD is just as bad! The formats keep changing etc.
Get a big hard drive - they cost peanuts these days - and get them all archived there. You can then stream them anywhere you want.
I've archived all Liberalwife's wax cylinder recordings for her...

Can you give me a hand with my almost worn-out 12" plastic?

Well, you of all people Lib, should know that the size isn't the most important factor. A 7" at 45rpm satisfied millions, after all.
BTW, I have a 12" vinyl disk with a small hole in the centre; is this a record?

Re: vhs tapes
We replaced our VHS tapes with DVDs :x
With things like recorded dance recitals and stuff like that, we had them transferred to DVD (by some lady who had the devices to do it, she was the only one who did it around).
