Spelling
So when your on-line, whether writing an e-mail or responding to a post here, how important does correct grammer and spelliing play in your having an intrest in another person? Does it play a major factor in whether you respond to them and how you respond?

Re: Spelling
I'm anal that way. For a few reasons.
When I'm following a train of thought, personally, I have a rotten tendency to drop words. So in an email setting I tend to read over things before I send and fix grammer and spelling as I go.
As far as responding? If I can follow the thought np. If I can't it gets iffy.

Re: Spelling
We all make mistake, so it doesn't really bother me. I make mistakes, and with my job i certainly shouldn't.
I try to write corresctly as i don't want to come across as stupid i suppose, but if i do, who cares

Re: Spelling
I was talking more about when we see others using words that have the same sound, but spelled in a different way. Or when every other word is grossly misspelled. I misspell words all time also, but try very hard to at least spell the correct word for the sentence. Know/no there/their etc....But what I'm seeing, is that the younger generation seems not to be so concerned with how to spell or spelling the correct word. It's more like they just throw a bunch of letters in there and hope that you can decipher what it is they are trying to say.

Re: Spelling
I have to admit, I'm a stickler for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Whether it's in e-mails, instant messages or text messaging. Especially in text messages, some people probably think I'm crazy for using commas etc., but there's never any doubt about the thought I'm trying to convey.

Re: Spelling
Good spelling and grammer(sp?) mean every thing to me. It can reflect who you are and often transfers over to the workplace. I am certainly not perfect and have often confirmed my spelling. I hate run on sentences and sentences with no punctuation. I will most times always reread my comments before sending. When used mildly shortcuts are fine.

Re: Spelling
BUT, I do have an issue with my laptop that I never had with a stand alone. I'm typing away and suddenly I have half my current thought in the middle of a paragraph above. Dammit.
These are for my laptop

Re: Spelling
This is a major issue for me. As I have stated to many people in my life. I don't understand how I can have the IQ I have and the so called intelligence level so many people in my life seem think I have, yet I can't sell or write a coherent thought to save my life. I can however tell you the speed of light or sound and several digits of pi. I can work out a quadratic equation in my head. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME!! It is also embarrassing. I even confuse spell check. I think its a mental block. I need a support group just for this issue. Someone help me please! My kids stopped asking me to help them spell things in first grade. When someone in my office or house would slip up and ask they would usually start laughing as soon as they realized who they asked for help.

Well I certainly wouldn't call you illiterate. Some of us just excel at some things and some of us just have problems with everything, like me. So don't sell yourself short.

Re: Spelling
I would rather write by computer as my hand writing is not very readable. So when I do write, I print so I know someone else can read it.
