Hmmmm. Well, if what we think we know currently is correct about the number of galaxies/stars and the distances they are apart then Hawkins is probably correct about there being extra-terrestrial life but is having a bit of a laugh about whether we should contact them!
The distances involved are SO huge we have no practical means of contacting them until Scotty does invent Warp Drive and an even-more-of-a-genius physicist had a few famous words to say about that!
It's hard to imagine what new resources they would want that would be best found down here anyway, given that we are looking to other planets, asteroids etc. as sources of raw materials. The only thing we seem to have that would make us remotely attractive is... er... life. So they will come here to harvest DNA for genetic experiments? or to collect us as slaves!
Maybe that's why so many people claim to have been experimented on sexually when they've been abducted by UFOs...

this is actually the topic on radio this morning some very good debates for both sides, i think there has to be some sort of other species or entity out there surely we arnt the only suckers 
probably not the typical alien portrade in movies  though.
id take them to a nudist beach make sure some of you lovely sexy ladys there they will be stunned by your bueaty and i would take there space ship for a joy ride

i read that it won't be a good thing for us to meet them as they most like have used up their planet and resources. kinda like independence day or V the visitors. even the history Chan has a bunch of stuff n there site on Roswell and all, cattle mutilations and all. life exists in the most extreme places, deep under ground and at the bottom of the oceans,the moons of Saturn and Jupiter and countless thousands of other stars in the universe.
