It's called a "gag contract"
You know those "service rating" sites, where consumers post comments and rate companies, contractors, and even doctors?
I was reading a little something the other day. It seems that some doctors are a bit pissed at some of these sites and are asking people to sign a "gag contract" before treating them or taking them on as patients. The "gag contract" states that they cannot ever post any comments about the doctor or rate them on any site on the internet.
These doctors claim that they fear that people will rate them, not on their talent, ability or competence as a doctor, but will post internet comments and rate them on their personality, bedside manner, whether or not the doctor was rude, arrogant, etc....
So what do you think? Would you want to know if a doctor rates as a rude arrogant jerk along with any comments about his medical competency? Is "personality" something we should expect from a professional? Should doctors feel as if they can be rude and ill mannered and it doesn't matter? Are they right to ask anyone to sign such a contract?

anyone should be feel to express how they feel, part of being professional is tact, if they don't have it then people should be able to rate them as such. Obviously its the internet so not eveyone will rate them fairly but c'est la vi.

Re: It's called a "gag contract"
Granted, not everyone will be completely fair in rating. However, I feel that people should be able to rate doctors, other health care and anyone else they see to rate.
If the person does thier job well and treats the customers well, they have nothing to worry about.

Re: It's called a "gag contract"
I haven't been posting much lately, but given my experience, I will.
When I tell of my experiences with medical office's and doctor's, I provide both the professional and personal aspects of my experience.
However, I am positive there are many out there who just like to rant, rave, and nit pick. From my work back ground, I've also seen doctor's who give in to a patient's (or their spouses) demands!

no profesion shud be immune to being rated ar ranked i think in general most people who take the time to rate a company or site will be honest.
i know as a traveller we would always take alot of notice about accomadation ratings from fellow travellers it seemed the best and most honest assesment of the place

Re: It's called a "gag contract"
I checked out one of the major doctor rating sites today, just to see...
There's a field scale of one to four to click on to rate the staff, the doctor's knowledge and helpfullness, and for promptness with their appointments.
Then a text box for up to 1000 characters for comments. Right under the text box is ....
" Please make your comments detailed, helpful and polite and tell us WHY you rated as you did. Libelous or very short comments may be deleted. Further, this is not the right forum for reporting illegal activity, unless you include a link to a site with supporting evidence.
And remember, you are legally responsible for what you write here. "
