Anybody caught up in this?
Wow, pretty massive (and serious) recall with the sticking gas pedal.

Re: Toyota Recall
I watched a program here that floored me the other day. This guy said, if your pedal sticks to the floor, just jam both feet on the brake pedal as hard as you can. As they apply, shift the car into neutral. This is exact ass-backwards! Jamming your feet down onto the pedal before you shift will cause damage to the transmission, shifter, and brake shoes as well as the tires. The recall calls for the replacement of a few parts under 50 bucks (with labor). And think about the guy behind you too. You should always shift it into neutral first. Then, apply the brakes. Never shut off the motor until you come to a full stop, as most cars come equipped with some sort of power-assisted program (brakes and/or steering) Pull to the side then shut it down and decide what to do from there...

Re: Toyota Recall
Toyota is running a hard campaign to counter act this very, very bad thing....
But....I dunno....anyone else kinda not like having these cars share the roads with us?
Do you ever look over and see a Toyota coming your way and think "Uh-oh"
It's a huge mess now

Their tag-line in UK is "The car in front is a Toyota" - it doesn't sound quite so good now...

The guy is correct. Not only do you want to slow the car before shifting, the new automatics won't shift into a lower gear until they reach the correct speed. Shifting into neutral before slowing will also cause instant and catastrophic engine failure. No engine no power brakes.
I'd like to know how it is no one can figure out how to shut the damned things off.--[one of the 1st things Toyota said to do.] and common sense

Re: Toyota Recall
there are a lot of em on the roads ,even read were one guy was going full bore and the cop had to pull up next to him and tell him what to do and he also said there wasn't much brakes left either. i had a car once that did that too and its scarie and if ya put it in neutral ya might blow the motor i would turn off the key and grab the wheel with both hands and the power brakes and steering arnt working and worker over to the shoulder

Re: Toyota Recall
It's proven thru the complaints that there are a significant number of complaints on this problem since it's been "mediaized"
The Prius has for many years had brake issues and were told by dealers that it was normal. I'm sure this was in consumer reports or other car mags.
Lots of people looking to get ahead by suing I'd think.

Re: Toyota Recall
Basil Fawlty would disagree, but like so many things, manual is better.
