"Fake" Reality TV
There's a disclaimer they run prior to some shows, that clearly states that what you are about to watch is "re-enactments based on actual events"
Then they present the show with cameras, cameramen and commentary in a reality format.
"Operation Reopo" is an excellent example of that. There's plenty more too.
I don't like it, don't watch them, I just can't get over the fact that the whole show is a "re-enactment" but I'm a bit amazed how adamant some are. Hubs works with a few that have these excited discussions about "Operation Repo", he mentioned once that it wasn't "real"....and gawd, they kinda wigged out on him, got pretty upset insisting that it was all very real.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
just like the people that insist that Pro Wrestling is fake...yes, it may be scripted, and yes, it may be choreographed, but it is STILL real, and real injuries do occur. you can't tell me that when a 400 pound man sits on you, it doesn't hurt, just a little...

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
Well I totally agree that Pro Wrestlers are great athletes, but it is fake, and where years ago they denied it, now they create scenarios that poke fun at even themselves. Tons of training is gone through to become probably the best stunt people in the entertainment industry. But many travel, golf, room together etc...I've seen documentaries showing how many are friends, not all, but many. My son got really into it and I watched most every week. I was into it when I was his age. To see Donald Trump jump the C.E.O. of the WWF, (vince something ) and sucker punch him, then DIVE on him is no less then a crackup! Yet even though fake, one of the "Main Events" of the year brought in the largest crowd ever into the superdome in Pontiac Mi!!! That tops the biggest music acts in the business...my son went to one....I forget ticket prices but they were enormous, like 200.00 or something? They range from $35.00 to $7,500 depending on where you want to sit....

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
I work with couple of X-wrestlers. They have said that its all fake. If they need blood, the wrestlers will cut themselves to bleed all over everything. The reason they got out, was either the spouses had put their foot down with extra activities, drug use ect....Most of those wrestlers are real down to earth people, very nice. But of course there are those that are total assholes too.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
Well even though it is fake, I must say that they do INCREDIBLE things and actually get up...No doubt there is talent and a huge risk when being thrown from 30 feet in the air and landing on your back! Some of the flip dives they do off the top ropes cannot be anything but real and they have to time it just right or a broken neck is a sure thing. At least now they make it laughable as far as the shenanigans surrounding everything. I mean if it were real, would cops would allow two guys to be chained at the ankles, use sledge hammers and such to fight?? Whaaaaa? I am far from a fan, but I do respect the ability to not get injured. More then a couple have died through the years or have had serious injuries...
Steroids are rampant within the "entertainment", can't call it a sport. BUT.. Like I said they have to be the best stunt men out there.
Now skip all that and lets say we wrestle...eh eh eh?

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
I was thinking mostly of the newer trend in "Reality" tv, where the format is faked to appear to be reality, with a camera crew following real events, but actually....not so real.
The show may feature real people , real jobs (like Operation Repo, Cake Boss, Family Jewels,) but the events are faked, scripted, and/or based on real events and re-enacted with the addition of actors.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
While the moves and everything they do in wrestling are 'real' the entire fight is scripted, down to when they do the specific moves, their speeches, who wins the fight, it is all determined before hand.
The moves are also designed to be visually stunning, but do the least damage possible. Chairs and tables are pre-broken in spots so they cause very little pain for the hits.
Its fake!

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
Fake, I totally agree....BUT, as I said to jump from the top rope,do a total complete flip and land on a guy using your head as the weapon is a risky move that calls for perfect timing, or it's broken neck city. The props and all that crap is not what I mean, they do indeed do scripted, trained moves......but those moves are not at all simple to perform. Not easy to remain in the game for long, or end up disabled or worse. Much more athletic then years ago...stunts, yes, but they must be executed JUST right...by the way, now my son is past that stage, I never, ever watch..it was for him.

Thanks for the info, I will try and google this phenomena in hopes to find as much information as possible though I must say my things have yet to freeze or snap off to this point. Yet in respect to your wisdom I will as I said check into these garment things further.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
"Hardcore Pawn" is hub's latest fav. I like the original Pawn Stars but he'll watch a marathon of Hardcore Pawn.
I'm sticking with Rick, Hoss, Chumlee and the Old Man. I like the format and the people. I do just love Rick's laugh.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
Since Pawn stars, others have tried to copied it.
Hardcore Pawn on TruTV, and Pawn Queens on TLC.
Pawn stars is the original and the best I think, I do love the show.

Re: "Fake" Reality TV
I do too! I like the people featured, I like the final count competition on who earned the most from their storage auction buys.
Barry is a hoot for sure, Jared and Brandy are the cutest couple ever, Dave can be such a hardcore ass.
Spike runs a storage unit auction show too, "Auction Hunters"....not nearly as fun as "Storage Wars" though.
"Ax Men" is a favorite of ours too, Shelby is ca-razy.
