Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
and what about John Fogerty? i do agree that Robert Plant is a enigmatic front man.

another name to be added to the list? Ozzy, he was a great front for Black Sabbath!

Wow.....whoever created that list was dropped as a child or something..It's focus is one genre of music! Hello!!!! Mark Miller, the lead singer for Sawyer Brown is one great front man....I saw them a few years back and he didn't stop moving for the entire show..a dancing fool...and a great dancin fool. Wasn't the greatest concert I've ever seen but it was great, HE got the place rockin. Afterwards I snuck back by their bus,and I could see him sitting there in the front at a small table with a wine cooler. I tell ya the guy was spent...He looked like one that gave all they had, and he did exactly that. Does he deserve on that list? Maybe, maybe not. But try looking from all angles and styles of music. David Lee Roth does Karate Kicks.....whoooo hooooo Robert Plant, a great unique voice..but he basically held the mic stand... I like both Roth and Plant, don't get me wrong...Blondie? Ohhh somebody stop me!!!!

I think that if one name is connected as the face of a band it is Axl Rose with Guns 'n Roses.

Im amazed that no one has piped in with Kurt Cobain or Michael Jackson. Not a fan of Cobain, bur MJ fronted the Jackson 5

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
Again, a total band effort in creating some of the most incredible music....Heart. Ann Wilson has the most versatile female voice in rock-n roll, in any genre. Saw them four times...they as a band could go from Crazy on you to "Without you", by Nilsson etc. The best live band by FAR I've ever seen. Many create masterpieces in the studio, but cannot reproduce that magic live. So Heart, BEFORE they revamped the band and ruined it (yes they had hits after such a blunder but no where near what they were before.) Had such a great mix of musicians. Roger Fischer, the heavy crunching guitar heard in Magic Man, Barracuda, his style was unmistakeable, this was in the bands prime in their best days, and Howard Leese, a totally different, subtle yet tasteful style...Nancy Wilson great in the middle. They had one of the best drummers of rock, Michael Derosier who they fired because he was "too good?"..lol PLEASE PASS THE MIDOL.
Yet with such a incredible mix and blend, Ann Wilson kicked ASS....Many female singers or male for that matter have their "style", but not the ability to sing a ballad, and then belt out rock, one extreme to another...With such force, yet such vocal control...so versatile yet so distinct, when you heard that voice on the radio there was never "who's that singing?"
I am a huge fan of many, many singers from all kinds of music, so actually picking the top front men / woman to me isn't possible. Ann Wilson just comes to mind as she blew me away more then any other vocalist I've ever heard live.

Really didn't think I could reply to this because so few I would consider outstanding or in this catergory. However, one finally did come to mind, (again, can't believe I'm mentioning).

Donny Osmond, a front man for the Osmonds who later went on to a solo career and other forms of entertainment.

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
Sorry, I never got into Heart's music. I always felt they were just a bit too commercial cheesy, lyrics and music wise but none the less a major part of that era's "hair and spandex band genre... no way comparable to Grace Slick!

I am, as I have mentioned before, a fan of Annie Lennox (The Eurythmics)

I do agree with the mention of Cobain, I do feel he and (Eddie) Vedders have their place ushering in the decade of 90's grunge and "alternative". (Along with others like "Alice in Chains, Weezer, many more)

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
Ahhh, but the hair and spandex didn't occur till after they replaced the bass player, drummer and lead guitarist mentioned....There was never ever spandex, they were far from commercial, give a listen to songs like "Heartless, Kick it out", Mistral Wind, give Mistral Wind an ear...I am talking in the mid to late 70's...No big hair, far from commercial. When they ruined things, I never bought a album/ cd after that. Suddenly Nancy Wilson is dressed in shiny silver, 10" platform booted, major cleavage space suits??She's doing these "moves"..lol, rock & roll fake looking kicks in the air? A total about face of what they had been.....they NEVER did that prior. I sit here now looking at the photo's from their 1st greatest hits CD and they are so far from where they ended up..A big part of my love for the band was they weren't commercial, not about T&A, they weren't selling sex, not at all they were selling music. What happened was the sisters got a bit greedy,( they felt a need to deny that in an interview, even though they weren't asked the question) They did admit they thought they needed to "keep up with the times".. they needed a change, and after that change the "Lets make money rather than music" began. There are actually two versions of Heart, the original kick ass rock band, Musically Very Zeppelin influenced back then, many albums cuts show that. The second version in my opinion sucked. Much of the appeal for myself and others was that they didn't ride the money train, we talked about that back then, they were unique, with very complex music..we tried to play some of their songs in the band, har har The band that never sold out....sadly did.

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
Truthfully, wasn't much into Heart then either, really can't say I like the Magic Man/ Barracuda days much better than These Dreams/Dog and Butterfly days.

I could back it up a little earlier in the time frame and mention Roger Daltry, and Joe Walsh (James Gang - Walk Away, Funk 49)

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
Well, we all have the different tastes, thats what makes this interesting!!...I am so into what Heart did probably from a musicians standpoint, I listen to songs sometimes and block all but the instrument I want to focus on, and with them there was so much going on in many of their songs I'd hear something different every time...subtle but very tasteful nuances. I love all you mentioned BIG time...Daltry, the entire band.. We did an instrumental Funk 49 as one of our break songs, I never ever tired of playing it. Also "Bell bottom blues", Derek and the Domino's, God I love that song. To me that era probably contains more of my favorite music than any other....In rock & roll anyway, I don't know as I could pick an all out favorite, as soon as I did I'd change my mind. The history of musicians bouncing from band to band. Neal Schon , guitarist from Journey played for Santana when he somewhere between 16-18!!, Peter Frampton was with Humble Pie at about that age, so cool..those were indeed the days....

Re: Top 10 Frontmen/women of All Time
What I find to be interesting was when a band splits, like Pink Floyd, so there you have what was once blended now showing as two seperate entities.
The Waters Floyd, the Gilmore Floyd...and truthfully, can't say that I could choose between the two Floyds if I had to.
