the comforts of home.
due to the rough stretch in the economy, i have decided to once again move. i have found the perfect room mate, and we will be renting a three+ bedroom house, and split all the utility bills 50/50. my new room mate is the best! (it's my MOM!) she has been having a rough time making ends meet, her work hours have been cut to one day a week, and there's so many changes to the Social security system, that she won't be getting as much per month. plus it will also help ME save a little money on my bills too.

i LOVE my MOM! ...and NO, it's not what some of you may think, you sick minded perverts...

mom will turn 74 next year.

Re: the comforts of home.
That is just fantastic!! I can't begin to express how I personally feel about you helping her out, or the mutual helping of each other.

My father moved in with me 3 years ago, he helped a little. There were disagreements and changes made, mainly he got his way on everything.

My mother is also 74 and not doing well financially. I try to help her out whenever possible with funds or just advice, (she takes the money- won't even listen to any advice). She is extremely difficult to deal with but I try. She would have been better off if my well to do brother did not insist she OWED him money and she turned over all her savings over to him. Also, because of it, she must work everyday.........He doesn't care, says he knows nothing about it and doesn't care what I think.

But, that is "None of my business".. I'm just to smile and act like it is all fine. It is really between them and if she is gullible and he is an ass... I'm the only one that can't sleep at night because of it.

Anyway, good for you!!! ( MMM, sorry I vented in here, too)

I'm my loved ones primary caretaker, I just don't reside under their roof any more. I could go on and on but I'll keep quiet on this matter.

Re: the comforts of home.
my parents are 87 & 79, & both are doing pretty well, although i have noticed they are needing more & more help from me, which is ok, i'm not bitchin, i'[m only 12 miles away, & they are my parents, so i dont mind. But i know the day is coming when some unpopular decisions will have to be made, i just wish my brother was closer so it wasnt all left up to me what to do when this time comes., Ok, i'm done venting.... sorry

I didn't take it that way lowlands so don't worry hun. I resided with my parents for roughly five years, and now have my own place 15 minutes from where my parents reside. Since my parents health is fair, I'm over their house 3-5 days a week making sure everything is in order, from their medicines/medical, Dr. Appts., house repairs, to all other errands daily/weekly with food shopping, drug store, etc., since neither drive, nor can do certain chores.

Thats good. I live a 2 hour drive away from my parents. Just a little too far. Luckily my brother lives closer.

I'd love to be able to build a nice "in-law" suite onto my house and move my parents right in !

Re: the comforts of home.
finally! we started moving today! my computer and tv will be the last things to go, my cable/internet are set to be disconnected here as of 12/01/09, and mom set up a new account with the cable company, since she'll be upgrading to digital cable/internet/phone, we will get the introductory rate!! we get set up in the new place as of 12/01/09, so i might as well leave the tv/computer here until then...i'll be around later at night, and possibly be checking in...for the the next week or so, then i'll be back on track!

Re: the comforts of home.
Wish you all the best! I have moved something like 14 times and it got old about 13 times ago! Finally I got smart and started seeing things I'd been dragging from place to place for years, and for what? "Oh I might need that someday?" A tie with Mt. Rushmore on it that lights up, you know important stuff. So I started getting rid of a LOT of things I'd been hauling around. Now though I hope to not move for a looong time, ( Well till the law catches up to me, it ain't easy being a fugitive,....KIDDING! ) When I do move it will be much easier. The last move I made was half the hassle I'd been used to.
Again the best to you!

Re: the comforts of home.
A good thumb rule... if you don't wear or use it for a good two years, get rid of it, no need for it to become part of the rat-pack category.
