Re: Trick or Treat
about six years ago, my ex (we were still married at the time) had taken the little one out Trick-or-treating, and i was home in charge of passing out the candy. a lot of little kids came (we were living in a trailer park). after a rather large group of kids left, a bunch of teenagers came, they were not even wearing any costumes. i heard a boy form the back of the group holler out "WE KNOW YOU HAVE CANDY, SO START HANDIN' IT OUT!" there must have been about 15 kids or so, ranging in age from 11 to 17 probably...my candy supply was almost gone, but i got even with those punks....i went to the cupboard and dug out the leftover candy from our Easter baskets...

I had a similar situation about 15 years ago or so. We had run out of candy one halloween night and had a bunch of teens ignore our "lights off" indicator that we had called it a night as far as giving out candy. Yet they continued to knock on the front door after I had turned the light out. I then tied my 4y/o german shepard (gentle as hell) out at the front door for an hour or so. Not a bark of any kind, no one came to the door after that!

Re: Trick or Treat
I've had many great years with Halloween, from the creativity of preparing a costume, to getting half pillow cases full of candy, and not returning home til after 11:00 p.m..... those were the days and of course can't forget getting together with friends as a teenager, having lots of fun.

Re: Trick or Treat
Worst experience was with one of my little sisters. Two bullies jumped out of the woods and stole her pillow case full. I hunted them down, following the trail of discarded candy and wrappers. I caught up to one of them at his families doorstep. He tried to run, but I clothes-lined him. His parents came out and detained me, while mom called the cops. I had to go downtown and explain it to the police. They were okay with it, even making the kid give-up his buddies and paying for the damages. I think my sister had a candy account at the local mom & pop penny-candy counter that year...

Re: Trick or Treat
Okay, not getting alot of fun, happy memories. Mine mainly consist of massive parties with crazy, wild drunk friends.

So, tonight I watched, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. A father quit his corporate job and starts a charity that feeds hundreds of hungry families in his community.

This brings to mind our Trick or Treating for UNICEF. Once popular, I even remember it on an episode of "Bewitched". A good memory.

Re: Trick or Treat
A group of us that hung together (in our teens) did pull one Halloween prank in town that we thought quite fun and amusing...we're all proud that every after that first year, it was copied by others and has become a yearly town tradition.

As a kid, gawd, it was great wasn't it? We'd have the Halloween day at school with the costumes (Do they still do that?)and being from a small town, we couldn't wait till dusk to go door to door. It was so very rare to ever hear about some story from a distant city maybe about a razor blade in an apple and no one really worried about X-raying the candy. No big SuperCenter Walmarts or Targets nearby so costumes were planned ahead and homemade (at our house, usually from several decades of stored clothes and stuff from the creepy attic)

noy around here, to many people think that it's a Satanic holiday, so the schools don't allow costumes any more. (some parents are a little uptight, and don't want there children to be exposed to monsters...and feel that other parents would go overboard , allowing their kids to get to graphic with the costumes)
this year, my kindergartner's class is celebrating the fall harvest instead and are allowed to dress up like scarecrows or farmers.

I don't know. If the trick didn't cost so much, I'd probably enjoy the treat more.

Re: Trick or Treat
A long long time ago my friends and I went grave yard raiding,we did it alot and went out to the back roads that were dark and scary! When we got to this one grave yard we turned off the lights and motor and set and watched for anything, and in a few minutes we saw two white floating things coming out from behind the graves(2 different ones) and it scared the crap out of us,I yelled turn the lights on and start the car and my buddy said it won't start and the lights won't come on,we got ready to get out of the car and run when they came up to the doors and tried to get in, then we saw it was our other friends in sheets, the driver knew all about it and had it all set up! That was scary! He also put a kill switch on the car so it wouldn't start.

The custom is the children dressed up and went from house to house and would be given apples, money, and other treats to insure that the ghosts or goblins didn't play tricks.

So then, what's my treat?
