No Good Deed goes unpunished.
Trying to be a person who looks at the good in the world instead of focusing on the bad, has brought me back to thinking about a couple of statements. No good deed goes unpunished and another one, nice guys finish last. I'm sure there are more. WHY? Why is this. I would say it is because we live in such a fucked up world. But I am a person who looks at the good in the world instead of focusing on the bad. Do nice guys finish last?
I seem to remember it being bad if a Woman said you were a nice guy .

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
Nice Guy = Passive to a fault. There are times for action and there are times a gentle nature, but the typical nice guy doesn't know when to take action.
No good deed goes unpunished, well let's face it; there are a great number of bastards out there that will manipulate a situation to take advantage of the aforementioned nice guys , which also leads to why the nice guys finish last...
Let's face it, a capitalist world favors the complete and utter dick!

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
If doing good means finishing last, so be it. On the other side, to the person you did the good to, you will be on first place. So what matters ?

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
I am one of those that believes yes...."humans are inherently good"....but I don't count on it or expect it from anyone.
Any good deeds I do, I do because it was in my heart/mind....the only right thing to do..and whether I could face something negative (punishment) or reap a reward doesn't factor in...I do it because in my heart/mind it was the right thing to do.
When I give, I've learned to be altruistic. I don't give with strings attached, I don't give to be loved or liked, I don't even give to get that "good" feeling, because then I am doing it for some selfish return really, I'm doing it for that reassuring feeling that I'm such a good person who did such a good thing, and I don't give because it's a Karma thing and it's only by giving that I will receive...because that's not altruism at all. A goal of being more altruistic...I'm never disappointed or surprised, because I don't expect anything anyway.

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
I know there are times when I've been nice and someone has been rude in response. VERY rude. It is just being nice, giving, and reaching out to people comes naturally, I don't know why? There are times when I think, "Rein it in.. don't be so quick" It may not be wanted. Anyway, would like to share this because I LOVE IT!
People are often unreasonable and self centered.....
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives...... Be kind anyway.
If you find happiness people may be jealous......
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow......
Be good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, it may never be enough..... Give your best anyway.
For in the end it is inbetween you and God.....
It was never between you and them anyway.

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
Kinda reminds me of another phrase:
At any given point, every person is doing their best. When someone is able to do better, they will.

Thanks Iwant2kssuallovr, a beautiful quote from Mother Theresa...I think it's her best quote, and one that can't be shared enough!

The wisdom of the ages - my Gran always used to say:
"If you haven't anything nice to say, shut up"

Re: No Good Deed goes unpunished.
I was feeling a little down untill I read these posts. Good Stuff. And Wanderings, I almost got my tongue pierced once, as a constant reminder of that saying.
Here is another saying... The road to Hell is paved on Good Intensions.
This one in my opinion is the culprit behind many of humankinds problems.
Hey sorry we wrecked the place we meant well.
