Re: Musty basement
I do air out the basement as often as possible, but anything stored in the plastic storage tubs takes on such a strong musty smell.
I'm working on clearing out the basement and using Dryloc all around, that's allot of work that takes allot of time..until then, I still need to store things.

A bucket or two of rock salt will dry out the air pretty well

Re: Musty basement
I will check that out JJ! Thanks!
I know I've seen a product called Damprid advertised, I wonder if that is pretty much the same thing?
I've heard great things about the Dryloc...it's just that I've got so much going on with the old house, that it's going to be awhile before I'm ready to paint and do up the basement properly.

Re: Musty basement
I had a lot of dampness in our basement here as well, with all the rain we had in KY this year. Ended up putting a dehumidifier down there, and it only helped. the only long term solution is the get it dry, and keep air moving though. Close totes, if you can get silica gel in there, that will keep things inside the tote dry, but if there is any air exchange at all, you will still pick up the musty smell.

Re: Musty basement
Ah ha....silica gel ? I think that's the stuff you can find in the laundry supplies isle...with clothes pins, hampers, ironing boards, closet stuff...
The basement just needs a good cleaning, then a coat of Dry Loc and I think it'll be good, it's just during several days of heavy rain that it seeps through several areas of the wall...Dry Loc,I'm hoping will fix that.
