I like music from the 60's to the 90's. From Painted Black from the Rolling Stones to Guns 'n Roses to Tom Petty to Creadance Clearwater Revival to R.E.M.. The music played in the series "Tour of Duty" is great too.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, PBS does this allot....they also run Austin City Limits, this past week or so it's been R.E.M. and Foo Fighters. They always did do a bunch of Pink Floyd concerts, I think it was last night "Great Performances" they had an orchestra playing nothing but stuff from the Star Wars movies.

They run a whole lot of Moody Blues too, especially during pledge drives.
Austin City Limits and Soundstage usually have some pretty current people and music going on.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its actually easier for me to list my DIS likes of music because its a shorter list than my "likes". I DESPISE anything "boy band" or Disco. Disco literally makes my skin crawl. I was appalled in the 70 when the Stones and Rod Stewart did disco songs! And the other guys in my band are campaigning to add Play That Funky Music White Boy to our set list. They keep trying to sell me on the fact that its funk and not disco. Not to me its not. I told them to play it if they wanted, but I wouldnt be on stage for it, because to me, its disco crap. And to get me to agree to sing a song like that would be the same as asking a Jewish person to attend a Hitler Rally. Aint gonna happen.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd definitely classify it in the Funk category more than disco.
The thing about disco and funk, it's now decades later, and what we hated during the current time, now has a bit of a different ring to it. It's a small reflection of a time, place, era, it's just a bit of the past.
There's allot of particular songs I did not like when they were first released, I did not like the band, the artist, they genre...whatever....but now decades later hearing a bit of it does make me kinda smile and think back to a past time, a bit of history we've actually lived through, and that's all it is, Free.
Maybe, rethink it a bit...just for funsies, sometimes it's not the purity of your musical soul that matters the most all the time, but getting the crowd riled up, getting them to laugh out loud, dance a bit goofy....that mood will carry on through the night (I'm an ex-band chick by the way, for nearly 10 years)
People go out to hear "live" music, not just because they want your musical integrity to be a part of their evening, but because they want to be lead a bit, encouraged to let go a little, and one stupid annoying song you hate, sometimes does all of that....("Old Time Rock 'n Roll- Seeger, a few very tired Lynard Skynard songs too, were songs I would have to leave the room when the band played, I was so tired of them, but the crowd....loved them and it showed the rest of the night)

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you L&H. And I see your point too Chazzy, we do some songs that I hate doing, like the ones you mentioned and Takin Care of Business, but we only do them because for some strange reason, the crowds love them. They make ME cringe! But I just cant bring myself to do that one. I know, Im a stubborn ass, I admit it.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Funky White Boy"....is not on my favorites list not because of it's disco era roots, but simply because it's become a tired standard. It pops up in the soundtracks for TV and Movies, it's become a standard dance song for cover bands at bars and at wedding receptions.
But people pay a cover charge, pay for overpriced drinks, pay for a babysitter so they can go out and hear those old tired songs.

I recall listening to the 1940's... 'Glenn Miller Orchestra' when I was young, watching my parents either hum it or dance in the living room. Such a different era of time and how they were raised.

I just like music. I'm really not a fan of the rap or hip hop style, but it grows on you if you let it. If it's got a rhythm, I'll probably listen to it.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oooh, yeah, I forgot about rap and hip hop. Dont like that at all. Possibly on purose because I dont really consider that to be music. It all sounds the same to me. Not big on jazz either. I never used to like Country, but lately, some of that is starting to sound more rock n roll-ish

There are times when I enjoy music without words, it's then when I turn to Jazz, sometimes Contemporary Jazz with a few artists like.... David Sanborn, Diana Krall, David Bennoit, The Manhattan Transfer and many other great Jazz artists.

Re: MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love music, all different types, some disco, hard rock, heavy metal, Celtic (only Celtic, not other "folk" types), 40's, 50's, 60's, you name the genre or era and there's probably a song in it that I like. Even a couple of rap songs are in there, lol.
I'm eclectic by nature, if I like it, I like it and nothing will change my mind. But for sheer listening pleasure, nothing beats the 80's. The time I grew up in and remember the best.
