The mystery of Google
Google's "doodles"....the way google often decorates it's logos for special occasions and such..
Well, lately, they are throwing in a few SciFi doodles with no explanation at all. They always explain their doodles.
It's become a mystery with plenty of theories....last week it was a UFO doodle, today is a crop circle doodle, the doodles seem to have a running theme now, but only guesses as to what it's leading to or referring too.
Anyone heard anymore of this? I'm just curious...I've heard it's a twitter game, I've heard it's a marketing thing for the release of a new movie, I've heard it's leading up to an HG Well's anniversary or birthday or something...
Just curious, I look at google several times a day....love the doodles, just don't know what the SciFi mystery is.

Re: The mystery of Google
I googled the google doodles and discovered some interesting things. The current series of doodles are a three set google doodle game, which the current crop circle doodle is the second one. The first doodle in the google doodle mystery was a space ship catching one of the google o's in a tractor beam. The third google doodle is supposed to be something related to invisibility, which provides evidence for H G Wells due to his War of the Worlds story and The Invisible Man story. Also his birthday is Sept 21st, so its within the time line.
Just a note, Google never uses their doodles to promote movies or books that are being released. Its all about the past with them

Re: The mystery of Google
Thanks a bunch Mooant...
I'll be watching for that third doodle, interested to see how they do "invisibility"...
I love the doodles, and when you run your cursor over them, a pop up title or caption appears...but I noticed there where none for the UFO and then the crop circle one showed up...all I could find with my short internet time this morning was a few rumors ...

Now, I love the Google Doodles (lol, snicker, titter, teehee) and usually if it catches my eye, I'll do further checking on it, just for gee whiz information. I didn't wonder why there was no caption, I knew what they were, so I really didn't think about it. But I'll be watching now!

I've always given the google doodle a good ogle
I'm looking forward to seeing where this recent uncaptioned series does lead...but I'm gonna lean towards the whole HG Wells thing.

Re: The mystery of Google
From the googlesystems blog..
"Update (Sept. 20): Indeed, Google's doodles were related to H. G. Wells' birthday. "Inspiration for innovation in technology and design can come from lots of places; we wanted to celebrate H.G. Wells as an author who encouraged fantastical thinking about what is possible, on this planet and beyond. And maybe have some fun while we were doing it,"

Awww, that was fun thing, hoping they do more of these "mysteries"

Oh yeah, we would put bar owners out of business everywhere. I've from the era of free pour which may have not been a good thing. Couldn't keep my manager or owner sober.

Re: The mystery of Google
Ya know...if you have the Google Toolbar you miss out on seeing the Google Doodle! That ain't coodle...er, I mean, COOL.
Need to be checking the Google Doodle more often so I'll have interesting and witty things to discuss at cocktail parties and such. I like to bring a bag of Google Doodles with me to a party usually, anyway. They're really good with dip. But Ranch Google Doodles are GREAT just on their own.
Man...I need to figure out something to do that will get Pepper to spank ME. Hmmmmm....

Ah Wandering, the version I've always heard (maybe the American Version?) is...
I'm a pheasant plucker
I pluck mother pheasants
I'm a very pleasant mother pheasant plucker
I did see the bar code doodle the other day, I can't help myself, when I see the doodle to click for further information!

Re: The mystery of Google
I did notice something interesting today, I googled a map and found the street view to extremely helpful. You click all the way down till the streets come into real-time view.I was looking for a Starbuck's in Portsmouth where I was meeting a guy to purchase his old laptop. I was able to view the whole neighborhood and the surrounding stores, so that I could find my way around once I parked. It helped too...
