A Third Category
The recent reports are that the world-champion South African runner Caster Semenya has both male and female organs.
Where would you like to see a third category applied when it comes to gender?
In sports and the Olympics? In restrooms in public areas like large arena and such? Would there be separate categories for male-to-female transgender and the female- to-male transgender? Maybe categories where gender doesn't play a role, just a may the best human/person win?
Could it be narrowed down to just a third category, when transgender can be broken down into sub categories?

Re: A Third Category
I think (NatGeo channel, "Taboo" ) I've seen a few documentaries where in some cultures and countries, the transgenders and hermaphrodites although of course, aren't as common as males or females, are still considered a socially acceptable "gender".

Re: A Third Category
We already have unisex bathrooms. If a person has both genitalia, then shouldn't they be able to use either?
Really, should it even matter?

Re: A Third Category
I think it does matter in public restrooms, especially when parents expect their children to also use these bathrooms.
It would be quite confusing to explain to a child, especially if that child is a bit too young to understand the basic facts of life. (I would think) some would not be so comfortable sharing a restroom with anyone other than the same sex too.
The whole sports/athletic thing is a bit tricky really, they define male or female (I think) by how much testosterone they produce, not so much by their genitalia?

Re: A Third Category
I think she should enter both male and female contests. that way she can complain about sex discrimination either way.

Re: A Third Category
NatGeo "Explorer" ran a pretty good hour show on intersex and transgender last night.
I love NatGeo...anyway, in many cases, it's not the sex (genitalia) we are born with that decides our gender but a small gland deep in the center of our brain (hypothalamus)
There's a female brain and a male brain and I'm sure we all knew that..love that NatGeo channel...cuz I can listen to people talk about stuff all day long...
