Woodstock
Today 40 years ago was Woodstock. Any body's been there and have some good stories about it. It still has a certain sound to it.

Re: Woodstock
Saw it was not even held in Woodstock but in Bethel. I was born 18 years to late to go. Have to have a talk to my parents.

Re: Woodstock
That decade in general, was a huge part of our history here, Haight-Ashbury, the war, the music, the art (Andy Warhol, Peter Max) the free love and drugs, the whole hippie movement.

Re: Woodstock
I was 10 but I remember my Mom watched a neighbors kids while they went. My Mom thought it was awful... I was sorry she wasn't more open minded! There were a few kids in my Jr High class who had gone with their parents too. The first hand stories were great!

Re: Woodstock
They had a 2 hour show on Woodstock last night on the History Channel. It was awesome and I learned a lot of new stuff that you don't learn from the original movie/documentary. Like the fact that Carlos Santana was so drugged up that he actually thought the neck of his guitar was a snake and he was afraid to look at it. To him, it looked like it was trying to slither away and he did everything he could to hold on to it.... and he prayed that he would stay in time and in tune...

Re: Woodstock
Over here they showed somethings too, funny part was:
The drugs were bad, music sound was often bad, the weather (wind) got bad, Mud and rain and still it still lives after 40 year. Amazing.

Re: Woodstock
It was a good documentary. Historical, as it had never been done before. Almost everyone survived. It could have been castrophic. Alot of interesting points, like how they were sued by a number of people, including the farmers who stated their cow's did not produce milk for weeks. The making of the movie saved them. The entertainers phenomenal and some of them scared shitless. It was unorganized and impromptu, no one really knew what to expect. Again, historical!

Re: Woodstock
They sold it to Warner Bros... Made just enough to cover their asses. There were some bands that wouldn't go on till they had cash in hand.
The person I felt sorry for the most was Richie Havens! That poor guy almost ran out of songs to sing! He said that every time he'd try to walk off stage, they'd tell him to get back up there and play because the band that was scheduled to perform hadn't showed up yet. On top of that, he didn't have his guitar and was given a cheap Yamaha acoustic..... He was awesome!
Chaz, if I happen to see that it comes back on, I'll let you know.... and a little but GH's new season starts tonight on Syfy

I saw part of that too. Seems like an incredible time to be young. Alot of turmoil and uncertainty in the world not unlike what we are seeing today. Just not sure todays music or bands could pull so many together. We as a people seem way more polarized.

I heard something on the radio the other day that said what each act was paid for playing Woodstock. The ones that I remember were that Ritchie Havens (and Janis Joplin also) were paid $1500. Thats right, $1,500, not $15,000. CCR was paid $11,500. And Jimi Hendrix was the highest paid at $32,000.

They tried it, JJ.... and failed miserably... Kids today don't have the mentality they did back then and that's kind of sad.... I'm not talking about all the drugs and sex... I mean the way they treated others and got along.

long story short, he was watching the documentary and towards the end of the program he saw himself, on tv! he was sleeping on his motorcycle. he said that he really didn't remember very many of the performances, but Hendrix and Santana both played amazing shows!

Re: Woodstock
The couple that are on the Woodstock cover, wrapped in a blanket, were talking throughout the documentary the other night. You don't find out that it's them until the woman mentions it at the end. She had tears in her eyes.... reminiscing..... It brought a tear to mine, too... I know, I'm such a sap!
