Static cling could be a culprit also, clings to the inside of a garment from the dryer that is being worn and drops off somewhere unexpectedly...not very sexy but it does happen often enough.

Maybe because it is dark, you are in a hurry (running), they get lost in the sheets. Maybe they should be glow in the dark.
