Well, Ive never worn one, so Im going out on a limb here.
Kilt = cold draft = SHRINKAGE!

I'm wearing one of my kilts right now, i've been into kilts for ages and have a modest collection of them, from light sport kilts, to traditional great kilts, and formal wee kilts, along with other kilted regalia. And actually depending on how you wear them they can be quite warm on a cold day, with a pair of boots and high piper hose, a good heavy wool kilt, with a sporan to keep the front down in case of an aggressive wind gust, it can be quite comfortably warm. Remember they were worn in the highlands of scottland where it gets very cold. Just remember there are only two occasions you're allowed to be non-regimental(to wear underwear) in the presence of the Queen or when participating in a sporting event.
