Emergency Rooms
How do you rate your local one?
The closet one to me isn't too bad I guess, the waiting can be pretty bad on a weekend of course, same every where I assume. The place is pretty old, the staff is pretty good and they will get you through the night or weekend but I'd never completely rely on any of their diagnosis.
Always follow up as soon as possible with my primary care Doctor, he's cool, I like him, happy to have him as my doctor.
Thankfully, I have rarely ever needed the Emergency Room care, the hubs does sometimes though....kidney stones.
There's quite a few of the newer "Urgent Care" centers popping up now, have no experience using any of them for anything yet.

Re: Emergency Rooms
I totaly hate our local hospital/clinic. They have a very bad reputation, even with the insurance companies. Most people say that you would never want to stay at the hospital, as the only way you leave, is in a body bag. There billing system leaves a lot of room for improvement. I found out I had a bill with them, but they weren't the ones who billed me, it was a collection company.

It's the same all over. Had the same experience with our local hospital. Insurance paid their part, next thing I know, collection phone calls. Called hospital, supposed to have billed me three times before collection-would have been nice to have gotten one bill! Got to love it

Re: Emergency Rooms
try going to ours, when you go in, and tell the doctor your symptoms, and he asks you "well, what would you like me to do for you?"...ummm, if i knew the answer to that? why the fuck would i be there in the first place???

Re: Emergency Rooms
Our local hospitals are known as "band-aide stops" everything more complicated than that is sent to UVA. Most people around here simply go to UVA in the first place. I can't figure out why they're building a new multimillion dollar hospital and the care isn't going to be any better.

Re: Emergency Rooms
We have 10 different ones in about 30 minutes either way, so it is more competative. We do okay, but I stay away from the urgent care....

Re: Emergency Rooms
Doctors office's and ER are no fun. I hate to see everyone having waiting, the children, those in pain. For the last ten months I take me dad one or more times a week for care. I am now a big fan of Xanax and it helps him to relax.
The staff can make a big difference. Our local ER has the cutiest, tall, blued-eyed, black-haired Englishman. He was very helpful, pushing his wheelchair, speeding through the area.....
