......Just like the real thing.........
There is a preponderance of bands that pay tribute to original rock bands and pop singers today, don't 'cha think?
Around my area of New England we have Big Shot(Billy Joel) and The Diamond Collection(Neil Diamond)...just to name a few. These two in particular, have got it down to a "t". The voices and the stage acts are spot on. So much so that the original artists themselves have commented and been in promotional pictures with the cover bands. I would imagine that they (Neil Diamond and Billy Joel) feel that these particular cover bands pay them the utmost compliment by paying tribute to them.
Any bands in your area that cover any pop artists or bands?

Re: ......Just like the real thing.........
Funny you mention that Bill. I check out the "musicians" section of craigslist several times a week. Someone's always looking for people to join or start a tribute band, but you rarely see those bands advertised as playing anywhere. One that I did see billed themselves as a Bon Jovi cover band and they were absolutely ridiculous. There was also a Beatles tribute band that kept changing their costumes during their sets to look like the various stages of their career. The problem was, they sounded nothing like The Beatles and spent more time on costume changes than playing Beatles songs.
There is one band though that, although they're not a tribute band does sound amazingly like any band's song that they cover INCLUDING the Beatles. Their talent and versatility is incredible.

Possibly you are referring to The Big Smoothies from the Albany-Lake George area?

Re: ......Just like the real thing.........
Mr. Crowley an Ozzy Osbourne tribute band, was pretty popular in southern Mn, until the singer decided to act like Ozzy, offstage...showing up high as a kite, biting heads off bats...the local club stopped booking them, due to fear of protests from PETA.
the same sort of thing happened with the Lizard Kings(a tribute to the Doors) rumor had it that the singer (who was spot on as Jim Morrison) was planning to re-enact the whole Miami "exposure" incident. so the club owner canceled the gig at the last minute.
