A good experience all around!
I had to make the trek to the DMV today to renew the registration on one of our vehicles.....$85 to be exact for a two year renewal! Hey, this is Connecticut after all.
The DMV in this state has come full circle as to the way things are organized at all DMV locations. You enter the building, walk up to an information booth and a very helpful person checks out your paperwork to make sure it's completed correctly and then directs you to the proper clerk. It wasn't always like that.
Up to about 15 years ago, it was utter torture to go to the DMV for any reason. There was no information booth and very rarely anybody to help you get to the correct window or clerk. No matter what line you were in, 99 times out of 100, you were in the wrong line or your paperwork was not endorsed properly. The clerks were flat out *ssholes and treated you like crap. You'd walk away from that clerk feeling like a t*rd in the punchbowl......not at all wanted in there!!
Anybody have a tale of woe dealing with their present day DMV or one from the past?

Re: A good experience all around!
The women who work the local DMV have been there for decades, they are so very territorial about it, take that job very seriously, and they will not hide their deep, deep disdain and disapointment in anyone who dares to show up at the window without all the right paper work.

I was raised in South Jersey. NJ DMV workers are famous for been the most miserable in the nation. There was an article in the newspaper here a few years back where NJ DMV workers were been sent to school for customer relations. I have no idea if it's improved... It still surprises me to go to DMV here and see that all of the clerks are patient, kind and helpful. Now, if only they could do something about the waiting time!

I'll have you know that up 'til 1985 or so, Massachusetts had some of the rudest, inconsiderate DMV "workers" imaginable. They had such a bad reputation that state registry officials did a sting in each and every DMV location and found the rumors to be very real and then fired a whole lot of those very unprofessional clerks, thus hiring new people and training them to be more tolerant and professional in their dealings with the public.

Well here in AZ -- it is all online -- you can even get a duplicate driver license online!
