Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
How well do you get along with your remote controls, good gawd, so many frickin' button with tiny tiny little print on them!
There's the one for the DVD player, the old one for the TV, the new one for the Cable/DSL we got several months ago.
I have managed to learn quite a bit about the extra features on the newest remote, but there's still a whole lotta buttons there that I have no idea what their purpose is...
Do you know what your remotes are capable of or do ya just learn what you need to know?

I only know what I need to know == and I know how to turn the TV when me or the kids lose the damn things.

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
Our Cable/DSL had a minor momentary glitch yesterday, happens once in a rare while, so it froze up, had to reboot the box, but once rebooted and back on, in order to use one remote to change channels, it took two remotes, a pair of reading glasses and some trial and error...
We've got one remote upstairs that is just so battered up and taped back together, all because the hubs falls asleep with it in bed, rolls over and tosses it out onto the hardwood floors...inspite of the fact I have a remote pocket attached to the head board and a throw rug on his side of the bed just for preventing remote being further damaged.

I use what I need on them. However, it's fun to just push the different buttons to see what happens.

I know which is the power button, how to change the channel and how to change the volume. What else is there to know? Of course Hard has used other buttons on the remote...

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
I've learned one cool new trick, and that's "autotune" so I can watch one channel, browse a menu for all the other channels at the bottom of the screen, check those channels to see whats on at later times, set an auto reminder to make sure I don't miss something I really want to see and it'll automatically remind me or autotune it in for me.
Now, the microwave, hell...had that thing for eight years now....I'm still not very adapt at using it at half power, and a few other programable things.

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
My dog has a habbit of jumping on the couch and hitting the buttons on my tv remote. Took me 2 hours to get the satellite working one day. I think he does it on purpose!

Yeh that half power feature is a mystery to me too!
To simplify things in my house, I invested in a special remote that learns all the menus and functions of all my stuff......my Bose system, my Dish dvr, my Plasma tv and my blu-ray player. Amazing.....if you are willing to part with about $300 or so.

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
I bought a new microwave a couple months ago and find that I can only cook stuff for a half minute or in increments of whole minites. I was formerly in the habit of cooking stuf for, say, 2 minutes 22 seconds, or 1 minute eleven seconds, and cant do that now. Anyone else have this, or did I just buy a crappy microwave?

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
Wow, nope...I've never seen that on a microwave and darn glad you mentioned it...ours is gonna need replaced soon and I'll definitly pay attention to that when shopping for the new one.
Mine is pretty old, but has the numbered button touch panel where I can put in any amount of minutes and seconds.

Re: Gadget heaven or gadget hell?
I've never learned the call waiting thing on my phone either, but not sure I want to really, one phone call at a time is enough and more courteous really, after I hang up with the one call, I just check caller ID to see who the other caller was.
