So it's true? Pigs Fly??
If I could be serious for a second... It really seems to have the CDC and others concerned as it appears to be easily transmitted between humans unlike the Asian Bird Flu that didn't seem to be nearly as contagious.

Re: The Swine flu
Hey, the pigs flying thing was darn funny!!
From what I caught on the morning news, people just weren't too concerned, they were snatching up vacation deals to Mexico in spite of it all.

Re: The Swine flu
We have two cases in Scotland here, but under treatment the patients are recovering.
I think the lack of panic is mainly due to the high recovery rate with treatment in every other country.

Re: The Swine flu
The 2 most common flu drugs are the effective treatment. It doesn't seem to be a major concern for most people. If you get symptoms, go to the doctor and get the drugs. You'll be fine. The folks that put off treatment are the ones at risk. The most important thing to remember with this flu is that even if you don't have health insurance you still have to go to the doctor or clinic for treatment.
I'm still not clear on how the original case started... did the 4 year old kiss a flying pig???

Re: The Swine flu
They say you can't call it the swine flu anymore it is called H1N1. They don't want to give the pigs a bad name. LOL
They keep saying there is no treatment for it, or am I hearing it wrong?

Tamiflu and the other (I can't remember the name) have been completely effective in treating it. There were 28 kids at a private high school in NY that all had it and all were treated with tamiflu. They are all fine. But treatment needs to be started as soon as possible.

Re: The Swine flu
A 23 month old toddler died from it here in Texas.... first swine flu related death in the US, I think.... They closed the high school in a town about 25 miles away from us because of some possible cases. So, you ask if anyone's concerned? Hell yes, I'm concerned!!!

Re: The Swine flu
Heard that this morning, so sad. People have been pretty flippant about it really, seeing it as an opportunity to get great vacation deals to Mexico and all.

I think they're insane. It's like they said on the news, unless you absolutely have to go, stay home!

Re: The Swine flu
Oh boy, this is a real can of worms! Close the Mexican-US birder and restrict travel to Mexico from the US and to the US from Mexico. That's the ideal situation in my opinion and many other countries in the world. Think the present administration will do that? No way because it's not pc!!
Just offering my opinion.......

Re: The Swine flu
Two things aren't gonna happen here, one...restricting anyone's travel to anywhere, over 300 cases worldwide, the problem is not just in Mexico.
Second thing that isn't gonna happen, we are not gonna discuss the Mexican border thing, that could go wrong very quickly, hot button issue, not going there.
We can discuss what a popular destination Mexico is for vacationers and honeymooners...I'm really surprised at how many people made their decision to go there because of the low rates caused by the swine flu outbreak.

I agree about this being a hot button issue. We need not go there!!
A friend of mine just returned from vacation in Acapulco and he said the flu was all anyone was talking about in the hotel and the restaurants. He worried about contracting the flu and actually didn't have a good time at all.

Re: The Swine flu
Happened to catch a snapshot of some celeb couple on a Mexico beach (some celeb couple I've never heard of before)anyway, they were in their swimwear, strolling along the beach hand in hand wearing thier face masks, they made a funny comment about the odd tan lines these two were gonna be sporting...
How relaxing can your vacation be if you're worried enough to wear a face mask?

Re: The Swine flu
I think it is important to remember the the "flu" causes over 30,000 deaths a year - all of the different kinds - mostly because the very young and the elderly don't recover from the dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. If you are worried, do all the things that you do when it is flu season. Stay hydrated, keep your fever down, and if you can't do that - see a doctor. Wash your hands, stay away from people who are ill and most of all, if you are sick, don't go out infecting all the rest of society.

Re: The Swine flu
They said this morning that there are 1000 cases worldwide, but the numbers are declining. They canceled Mayfest in Fort Worth and a lot of other events because of it. I think that's stupid. If people are scared and don't want to go, they just won't! They should at least have a choice. We've had more school closings around here, too. Some may be out longer than expected.
