Beauty Pageants
What do you think of 'em? Are they sexist and silly or are they a great opportunity and a confidence builder?

Re: Beauty Pageants
I have not seen one in so long. They were getting ridiculous. I heard they let the girls wear 2-piece bathing suits now. That's a plus!

Re: Beauty Pageants
I think they can be a confidence builder and like NRG said they can get college scholarships. I do not watch them any more they are just boring to me.

Re: Beauty Pageants
I think it does offer some great opps, I agree, the scholarships are great.
I've watched a few episodes of the "Toddlers and Tiaras" on the TLC channel....that whole baby/toddler pageant thing is just kinda weird really. All that makeup, fake teeth, spray tans, 6000 dollar dresses and hair peieces on those itty bitty little girls just for the trophies, crowns and some minimal cash prize...I just don't get it.

Re: Beauty Pageants
I raised my niece from the age of 15 along with he newborn baby. She was one great kid. We all grew together.
She was a fantastically beautiful specimen of femininity and class. My wife and I entered her in the same beauty pageants that sponsored Jonbennet Ramsey. She did real well and made us all proud. It cost us a ton of $$$$$ and weekends but we have no regrets. I was the one that picked out her pageant gowns. This was at my nieces' request. I was one very proud uncle!!
As for the pageants themselves........um......seemed like an awful lot of politics going on but we learned to play the game and did very well.........

Re: Beauty Pageants
Have you ever caught an episode of the "Toddlers and Tiaras"?
Since you have been that route, would love to know what you think of the show, is it really an accurate account of the world of toddler pageants? I"m sure only the really obsessed and most "colorful" parents and children make the cut to be featured on the series. I would guess most parents are quite like the ones on the show's filming

Re: Beauty Pageants
I haven't seen it, but I've seen many Moms & Dads obsessed w/their kids trying to be someone famous, thus taking them to many 'speciality' practices & paying lots of monies. They go too far. They rob the kids of an all-around child hood. And the kids get burned out by the time they become teenagers.

Re: Beauty Pageants
On one episode I watched a part of, the mother was paying $135 an hour to a "Pageant walk" coach....and the child was NOT in the mood for any coaching...
