Back in the day...........
Being an 'ole rock and roller myself, I was recently reminded about the first big time rock and roll show that I saw waaaaaaay back in the summer of 1968. I was fortunate enough to see Jimi Hendrix two times. That was my first exposure to a real live rock act. I was at a loss as to exactly what I was watching. Of course I expected the band to replicate exactly the sound from their album......and I wasn't disappointed! That same summer, I saw The Who as well Spirit! Oh and if I remember correctly, the ticket prices were about $5 each!!! As a garage band member, I fondly remember what I learned from seeing these big name bands and that is.........not to quit my day job!!!!!
What were your earliest and most memorable concerts and the ticket prices?

Re: Back in the day...........
Texas Jam '87 was the first and best concert I ever attended. There were about 5 or 6 bands... Boston was headlining... Whitesnake was there... Tesla... can't remember who else. I think the tickets were around 15 bucks. The best part was getting to the concert. Traffic going into fair park was at a standstill on I30. People were hanging out of their windows hoopin' and hollerin'... tons of people in the backs of trucks (it was legal then). Everyone was in an awesome mood. It was like a party on the interstate. My brother bought me the ticket and there were about 8 of us going. I had a blast!!
What sucked about it, though, was going to the bathroom and getting back right when Boston was coming on. All of the frickin' lights were out. A friend and I couldn't find our seats until the stage lights came on..... and there it was! That huge pipe organ.. Foreplay/Long time started.. it was an incredible opening!

Re: Back in the day...........
Saw "Chicago" at the University of Illinois Assembly Hall in Champaign in the fall of 1977. It would have been fairly forgettable had it not been the first rock concert I ever saw. I think student tickets were under $10 then. (I remember being scandalised a couple of years later when tickets for the Fleetwood Mac concert there went for an outrageous $12.50) The best concert I saw at the Assembly Hall was Bruce Springsteen in the fall of 1978. Maybe the best concert I ever saw was the Charlie Daniels Band outdoors at Glen oak Park in Peoria in july of 1979. I remember the air smelling like folks were burning whole bonfires of pot.....

That's exactly what the air was like up on the lawn of Starplex at the Marshal Tucker concert.... and Santana... Hell, some people actually started a bon fire at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert right on the lawn! Security worked hard for their pay that night

My first concert was Buck Owens and the Statler Bros. It was at the Apple Mountain Festival in Pa. 1968 and tickets were $8 for both shows, parking and admittance to the festival. We had a great time.
take care

My first concert was the Moody Blues, I think it was in 1978. My Second concert was Jackson Brown, about 1979. Both were at the St. Paul Civic Center, which has been replaced by the Xcel Engery Center. Have no clue what the ticket prices were though. Moody Blues was just great. The sound was just like on their albums. Jackson Brown, the music was so loud, that you couldn't even hear them singing. And yes, there was a constant cloud of the wacky tobacco.
I took Ma to her first concert which was Alabama, in 1988, when they played at the Great Minnesota Get Together , State Fair. We had a blast.

I saw John Cougar MenstrualCramp once before (25 years ago?) and I was less than impressed. I always was a rock and roller and didn't have much tolerance for anything folk-like.
