WTF is wrong with SNL??
I caught Saturday Night Live this past weekend and I saw them making fun of the governor of NY by doing "humorous" bits about his blindness. Oh yeh, fuckin' hilarious!! I don't understand the producers reasoning for even allowing that kind of shit on the air? What, a blind person is someone to be mocked and made fun of? I personally have issues with this kind of humor as I too have aesthetic problems myself and I wouldn't appreciate similar treatment.
I'm assuming the producers are looking for any anything that will help their ratings but is this the fuckin' way to go about it?
There, with that off my chest.....

Re: WTF is wrong with SNL??
I haven't seen SNL in ages, been meaning to tune in, just haven't yet...I can only guess by what you've posted that just maybe...the fodder for them from our recent youknowwhat has left them desperate for an act to follow...
The temporarily regained their popularity and now are pressed hard to keep it up.
Was it Eddie Murphy that use to do Stevie Wonder on SNL?
I am visually impaired myself, going too blind too soon is definitly a bit of a worry for me. I can make fun of myself, I can laugh at family and friends who might spin off a one liner joke, cuz I know they love me....but yep, for a bunch of strangers to point and laugh, that would be just rude.

The governor himself has expressed dismay as to this type of making fun of his problem and said it hurt his feelings.
If he were to make fun of himself and said that he wasn't bothered by it then....ummmmm, maybe but otherwise it's still low class entertainment.
As for Eddie Murphy, he donned the dark glasses and did Stevie Wonder with class and distinction, not derision or making the person look ridiculous or make him into a freak show. Murphy's act was above board and just added to the aura of Stevie Wonder. I'd go so far as to say that Murphy gave Wonder a new lease on his career by his "parody"!! They performed a number of times together on SN. Do you think that Stevie's handlers would have allowed SN to make fun of him and still have him appear on That show a bunch of times afterward?

They do say that "imitation is the highest form of flattery".... SNL hasn't had any class since the days of Murphy, Belushi, Akroyd... etc...

I have to agree, SNL stopped being funny (except by accident) a long time ago.

I'll bet you anything, Joe Cocker was LHAO at Belushi's imitation of him. I know I was!

Joe Cocker's on stage antics are not a product of a birth defect or ailment. It's just his "style"!
SNL's treatment of the NY governor is nothing more than desperation, plain and simple. They ought to be ashamed but I'm guessin' they're not!!

Re: WTF is wrong with SNL??
the way that i see it, (JMO..), if some one is willing to have a high profile career, be it a celebrity or politician, or what ever?, then they better be able to deal with the fact that SOME ONE will publicly humiliate them by poking fun at any and all things wrong, whether it be a stupid action, or a physical handicap....some one poked fun at him, because he's blind, big deal, get over it.

Nah, gotta disagree with ya bro. SNL made the governor look freakin' stupid by showing him holding that chart upside down. Not funny.......it was sad!!

Re: WTF is wrong with SNL??
I didn't see the episode but I have to agree that the insults are not funny. It seems that it is what todays generation want's. I was in Iraq for over a year and insults is all I heard from the young soldiers. They think it is fun to gang up on certain people and insult them to no end. They don't think about the person being insulted. I have not watched SNL since the Early 80's. Back when comedy was really good. Murphy, Akroyd, Chase and the rest. I was only a kid then but it was good.

Nah no way I'll except that!! His blindness has everything to do with the reason the skit was done and absolutely nothing to do with his politics. They made fun of him, plain and simple. No freakin' excuse for that.
SNL sucks!!!!!

Re: WTF is wrong with SNL??
I'm with the majority here, I'd rather watch re-runs of the older classic SNL than any new live airings of it.
Eddie's Stevie Wonder act was good, really good, so was Eddie's James Brown, Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood (Mr. Rogers himself even found that one amusing!)
I love comedy, stand up, edge sitcoms, but sometimes something strikes me personally as poor taste or...just not funny.
My favorite movie is "My Cousin Vinny"...although it's full of sterotypes, it does it's job at being extremely funny without insult...but the stuttering lawyer scenedoes make me a bit uneasy....just doesn't seem right to laugh, just can't quite see the humor in it but I see why that scene is important to the story line.
Just hurlling stupid insensitive sophmoric insults for a cheap laugh....just pathetic...if that's what you have to do for a laugh, then you're in the wrong business.

SNL sucks!!!!! right, but if he were not in the spotlight for being in a political office, most likely, he would not be the butt of the jokes.
it's all part of being famous.take Micheal Jackson, for example...he was once on top of the world as the KING of POP, he made one mistake, umpteen years ago, and he's STILL being poke fun of. granted, it's not the same as being made fun of for blindness, but, then maybe the gov should not have ran for office. as the old saying goes, "if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen." (remember, this is just MY OWN OPINION here, i'm not trying to piss any one off. it's just the way that i see things!)

Re: WTF is wrong with SNL??
(First off, VB....yes, a stuttering attorney in "My Cousin Vinny"....one "yoot" decides not to use Vinny as his lawyer and hires another, this other attorney happens to have a stuttering problem, but only when he's nervous...like in a courtroom, if you don't remember...you gotta watch it again, dammit, I have to watch that movie every time I run across it while surfing the cable channels!)
Secondly, yep...being famous means you are going to sacrifice allot of privacy, and put yourself out there for scrutiny and being the fodder for comedians and such.
To make fun of someone...says more about the person who makes the jokes than it does about the person being made fun of.
I remember when the first shuttle accident happened, there were all these shuttle astronaut jokes that followed that tragedy. The astronauts didn't decide to be famous, but they did decide to commit themselves to a career that gave them fame...they didn't become astronauts for the fame...yet their death spawned all those tasteless jokes.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is...yep, for actors, performers...they are nothing without the fame, so yeah...they should understand the whole "public eye" thing...for others, they do what they do inspite of the fame.

I agree with your premise that "they" didn't choose to be famous but still, there are lines you don't cross, period!!
What happened to standards of decency? Personal attacks have no place when it's hurtful? How can the governor except that kind of shit? If I were him I'd make an example out of SNL and make it known that that kind of sh*t crosses the line ........ jmo
