Singers
Who are some of your favorite singers, and more importantly, why? Don't limit it to just Rock. Things that impress me are Range, the ability to go the highs and the lows; adaptability, the ability to sings various styles and genres; identifiability, (if that's actually a word) even if you don't know the song, you know who is singing it and most importantly, the embodiment of all three combined. Some of my favorites for the above reasons are:
Paul McCartney
Elton John
Jon Bon Jovi
Kenny Loggins
I know there are hundreds, probably thousands of other, but I was wondering what you guys think

Re: Singers
Moon, I knew you'd be weighing in on this one. And although he doesnt have great range, you always know when you hear Willie Nelson.

Re: Singers
L&H, I gotta agree with you about Billy Joel. Ive read reviews over the years that criticized his vocals, saying that he had no range and limited capabilities. I could never understand what the hell they were talking about. I think he's incredible.

Re: Singers
Linda Ronstat is one....her voice is amazing and....she wasn't at all afraid to explore music...the Nelson Riddle album, Canciones De Mi Padre album.....she seems more concerned with following her heart than staying on the top 10 pop list..

Yep. The man can sing rock, folk, doo-wop, gospel, blues and soul. And not only can he sing it all, he does all of them WELL!

Re: Singers
I would have to say---Johnny Mathis----Sinatra---elvis---roy Orbison-- and many of the oldies but goodies groups of the 50s n 60s . Those sounds will never be repeated by any of the upcoming groups of today, as the song goes they are lost in the 50s in a time forgotten by many and remembered by only those of us that have lived it.

Elvis had a great voice as well. so did Jim Morrison.

Re: Singers
Aretha Franklin had one of the finest voices I've heard.
Then there's the unfathomable element like Billie Holliday or even Amy Winehouse has.
