may i reply? it means a mature couple realizes it has evolved to where they no longer fully meet one another's needs alone, in whatever fashion that make be, and so they honestly and openly agree to a bilaterally decided course of action which is fair to each's heart and soul that the other still loves and seeks to serve, yet also to their original vows which they took and take seriously in making this joint decision, whatever form the decison may take. the decision, whatever it is, must be freely and jointly made, otherwise it is a sham decison of unilateral infidelity.
i tremendously miss (to tears) one very special person i lost who would have changed my life forever had she freely accepted such an open marriage situation as it did in fact occur in my life, knowing and appreciating how complex life and relationships, especially longstanding ones over decades of thick and thin, can be.

I believe that Open marriage means that two people are in love but the sex drive is getting weaker and they both need something to spice it up. If I had an open marriage it would be that we do it together like swinging .

I believe it means that either significant other has gotten permission from the other to date outside the relationship for the purpose of sexual gratification. It's a trust thing between married adults...
