Re: cat crapping on floor
I have and have had allot of cats, all were abandoned, dumped, sick, or special needs (like a cat blind in one eye, a three legged cat, cats that were abused)
Most likely the cat is reacting to missing your son maybe?
(Maybe a piece of his unwashed clothing that still has his scent on it might calm her.)
Do you use a litter box, or is she a "house broken" cat that goes outside?
Or...the top reasons for cats not using a litter box suddenly is they are sick, or the cat box isn't clean enough. I have to spend a large chunk of my day cleaning litter boxes, once they get too much in them the cats won't want to use them until they are scooped, or start to smell a bit from too much use and I need to dump them and wash them.
Since she is an older cat, a vet check up might be needed, when cats associate pain with bowel movement or urination, they associate the pain with the litter box and so try to avoid the pain and discomfort by avoiding the litter box.
Zeropetordor is kind of pricey stuff, but works really well with getting rid of any lingering cat odors that you might not be able to smell but they can. It comes with a dvd about cats and cat box problems.
Usually, when I have a problem pop up, I put in the specific search sentence and can always find a few good sites with the answers.
