Starbucks
Got this in an email today and just thought I'd pass it along. I for one don't drink coffee so I don't buy they're products anyway...but you might.
Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbuck's because they wanted to let them know how much they liked thier coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there.
Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for thier support in thier business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and thatthey would not send the troops thier brand of coffe.
So as not to offend Starbucks, we should not support them by buying any of thier products. As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, i feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I believe is right.

Re: Starbucks
I can be against a war, I can be against the governments that initiate and participate in a war, but I WILL NOT falter, in anyway, my support for the troops. Afterall, they are our friends, our nieghbors, our family, our own children !

Re: Starbucks
It's just internet urban legend until it can be authenticated.
There is a motivation for such propaganda in the great coffee war, yet, very little reason for Starbucks to take such an unpopular stance.
So,curious, where did you get it from? There is a pressing need to follow-up on such an important story.

Re: Starbucks
There is no shortage of Starbuck boycotting campaigns. I've seen articles on Starbuck worker's Unions and an assortment of activist groups asking for boycotts. The complaints and causes range from "fair trade acts", the pay scale of the exporting countries workers to Starbucks use of genetically engineered coffee bean crops. It seems starbucks has many enemies.

Now I'm not sure about this source but it addresses it anyway.
There is something missing from the supposed 2nd letter from the seargent. It is something no Marine, addressing other Marines, would leave out of a message to them. It is in the first letter complaining about Starbucks but missing from the letter they claim recants his complaint.
Ahh.....internet sources.

I'm not sure on this. Getting old is hell on the short term memory! What were we talking about? Oh yea, it seem to me I remember a news story about a coffee shop set up in a tent at one of the bases in Assholeastan (SP?) where they were serving StarFucks coffee? I might be completely wrong on this! I'm sure it's not the first time

Re: Starbucks
No, not cash. Large corp. can donate what ever they want to the troops, iit has to be worked out with the gov. but it is done all the time during war and peace time, when I was in VietNam, we would get free beer from Budweiser and Coke and Pepsi all the time, and gum from the Beach Nut company. Even today at the North Chicago Naval Station, and VA hospital recieves truck loads of donations from little Debbies snacks and Dominos Pizzas, I see it all the time. If there is a will there is a way.

Re: Starbucks
The best way to support our troops is yes, paying your taxes, not sending letters back to those brave people telling them you don't support the war or anyone in it (like starbucks) and making them feel like trash,(because they are not), being involved in anything that is going to make home feel a little closer, making sure they are getting everything they need to stay alive and comeback home to us!
You are right Deye Federal employies are not allowed to take gifts, but there would be nothing wrong with starbucks sending them coffee to bring home a little closer and to make them a little happier!!!

Re: Starbucks
i regularly go to a very popular starbucks here in sterling va, and i do'nt know what's going on but there has been a huge decline in customer volume in the last several days. i'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. i still do'nt know if the story here is true, and i am going to dilligently research it today. if i find anything out i'll post here. it sucks because if it is true i'll be out a great place to relax and watch the babe traffic. there are a lot of hot aupairs from germany, sweden, and canada that go there. it's almost as good as logging on to naughty!

Re: Starbucks
Thats a nice change from the starbucks around here, all I have ever seen in there is, out of shape people in a big hurry trying to buy a $4. cup of coffee, so they can sit on there fat ass's and log on with their wireless desktops.
